To be fair, Twilight still doesn’t exactly possess catlike reflexes. If Twilight can get a shield up in time, yay, no problem. If she doesn’t, one of them will be taking the hit in place of their slightly squishy archmage.
In fact, I think Twilight’s combat record has been slightly worse since she became an alicorn.
You know, I have totally forgotten Princess Twilight Sparkle. I was going down the list of episodes she wrote, and as I got to that one I was like… “What happened there again?”
Twilight drank… a glass of milk… we learned Luna’s rebellion lasted 30 seconds, it was all Discords fault, the macguffins got put back in a box… um…
In fairness, I watched it on a really dodgy livestream, with a really noisy crowd. I obviously need to watch it again sometime.
Yeah, it totally feels natural that they would try to protect their friends like this.

Don’t forget Princess Twilight Sparkle. Applejack was written amazingly in those episodes.
Ehh… I am willing to give her something on that point, and that is where I like Applejack best, but I still feel like others do that better…
…being a moron, I completely forgot she wrote Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks. I though Applejack was really well written in both, so my worries are (somewhat) soothed.
I actually like how McCarthy writes AJ when AJ is not the focus. Most of the time, especially in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th seasons, AJ is the best kind of supportive character - understated yet powerful in action.
I am a little worried about AJ though. Megan McCarthy has written a great episode about everyone BUT Applejack.
She’ll probably do some punching and at least one Futae no Kiwami, but we’ll see. X3
(I’d imagine Ryo Sakazaki is more relevant than Sanosuke Sagara, but I don’t remember the name of his move. <w< )
