…Fine, whatever, the student six are great, I recant, blah blah blah. I just got fillings put in (yeah, I know, first world problems, but whatever) and I’m not in the mood to respond to the entire magazine article you wrote, so you win, okay? You’ve filibustered me into submission.
Considering the School was still approved and has an abundance of students, that technically means that they’re still teaching basic subjects as well, otherwise it wouldn’t be much of a school. Therefore pretending that that alone is speculation doesn’t work.
Fame and Misfortune showcases her still having that job.
As I said before, they seem to have found a way to make it work around their own schedule, otherwise we’d be calling into question how they can just run off to save Equestria for the same reasons.
It’s called “passing on the torch”, it’s pretty much been established by this point that the tree of harmony is sentient to a degree, and it’s not like the students 6 have outright replaced the mane 6 as elements of harmony, considering the fact that the mane 6 them still have an internalized variation of the tree of harmony’s magic within them. Plus the original pillars of harmony also still have their magic as well, so if anything you could say the tree is simply making sure there are more bearers of harmony to protect Equestria should current bearers be indisposed in some way.
There’s a crucial difference between main characters and background characters you know.
It’s called “branching out”, considering the fact that so many other species and characters have been revealed over time, it makes sense that they’d eventually start focusing on them in particular, bringing them together as a group with a good way of doing so without it feeling forced.
Just because YOU dislike the concept doesn’t mean that it’s objectively a BAD concept.
The Pillars have already had their own separate episodes to showcase how they hold adjusted to the times.
As for Starlight, we already had an episode like that, not to mention the fact that we’ve had enough episodes to show starlight slowly build up her own little circle of friends, as was shown in Student Council.
I’m going to have to ask you to stop suddenly blaming the students six for “stealing their roles” if that’s where you’re going.
Not to mention the fact that they are much younger than the student 6 to be on adventures like that. Plus, they already have their own thing going on regarding helping others discover the meaning of their cutie marks, throwing them becoming defenders of Equestria on to their feels convoluted.
Considering the fact that she seems to have long since forgiven Starlight, any drama that will come from them being together feet would feel forced. Plus there’s the fact that that’s a filler episode at best and has absolutely nothing to do with the student 6. Unless of course you’re implying that they “stole” that from her as well, which is beyond nonsensical.
This conversation is leaning dangerously close to you blaming the student 6 for us not getting the episodes that YOU want rather than them and the school being supposedly “pointless”.
And they aren’t, they pretty much managed to work it into the show properly.
Yeah, you can make those assumptions, but the show really doesn’t do anything to address it, so it’s not much more than speculation, and it still leaves questions unanswered, like “Who’s teaching the basic academic stuff?” and “How much time do the Mane Six actually spend at this school of theirs?”
Yeah, Dash manages, but she has super speed and had plenty of free time before she joined the Wonderbolts, plus we haven’t seen her on weather duty in a while, so she might have left that job to somepony else at some point, most likely when she got bumped up to the main Wonderbolts team. What about Rarity, who owns a business that requires her to make her work fit her clients’ schedules, or, more to the point, Applejack, who already had two episodes about how busy she always is before they opened the school?
@Alphamon_Ouryuken
We’re gonna have to agree to disagree on that one, because I think it’s fair to say that some of them have grown more than others. And I really don’t like how they’re apparently more special than the Mane Six just because destiny says so and Tree Zordon only talks to them.
And other than Smolder, who shares Spike’s episodes, they really don’t seem to spend time with anyone but each other. And none of the other students even seem to have names. It kinda makes it feel like the whole school is full of shadow puppets other than the six of them.
I guess I just kinda feel like the Student Six weren’t really necessary, since there were already plenty of other characters that could stand the screentime. First and foremost, obviously, would be the pillars. There’s also Starlight, who wasn’t hanging out with any of the Mane Six other than Twilight; showing her becoming closer friends with the rest of them would have gone a long way. The CMC were doing a lot of growing in seasons six and seven, and could have grown into the rose of the Mane Six’s successors quite nicely had the Student Six not shown up. And if they still decided to have Sugar Belle take up an apprenticeship with Mrs. Cake, she’d be very easy to use as a supporting character, since she’d be working in the same place as Pinkie and dating Applejack’s brother, has plenty of room for character development, and they could definitely get an episode’s worth of drama out of her history with Starlight.
Pretty sure that math and other subjects are being taught off screen.
Ask for their schedules, they seem to have worked around it just fine (Rainbow Dash Is no surprise considering the fact that she can manage being a Wonderbolt, acting as captain for the weather team, and spending time with Scootaloo).
Plus, the school is a good idea because it technically helps teach them aspects of the magic of Friendship, which seems to have worked considering how far the Student 6 have come.
Fair enough, I guess; if using those specific characters was mandatory, I’m not exactly sure what would be a better excuse. (Not that the whole School of Friendship thing was a great idea, there’s a lot of questions about it that bug me like “How do the Mane Six fit this into their schedules” and “Is anyone teaching these kids math and stuff?”)
“Picking them up”? That would raise some odd questions, at least with the school it gave them the excuse to have the characters come to them without the question of why their parents would just allow them to leave. It was their way of extending the hoof of Friendship and unity to other races.
I was hoping for one too. Not to mention it doesn’t really make sense how they spent so much of season 7 building up to the pillars returning in the finale, and then ignored them almost entirely in season 8.
@Alphamon_Ouryuken
I honestly think focusing on species other than ponies could have been better accomplished by having the Mane Six go out and help in places that needed help without waiting for the map to send them, and possibly pick up Smolder/Gallus/etc. along the way.
Considering the fact that it needed to focus on species outside of ponies, add saying the school was a better handled idea.
True…I would have preferred a pillar 6 arc.
I like the Student Six, but I thought the whole school thing was pretty contrived.
Out of all of Twilight’s counterparts, the one I really want to see more of is Moondancer. (MimMan? Dimdam? Those both sound horrible though)
No.
Have you tried any kind of hippie ice cream without lactose?
(It’s bro.) It makes me physically sick every time.
… Bro/Sis that is… I need a minute
