There’s usually some area covered with trees near the mountains. It’s quite possible there was a small forest close to Yakyakistan.
They have a Trans-Yakistani Lumber Railway to transport the goods (similar to the Trans Siberian Railway)
Maybe, although I think ‘big fire pit to tell stories around’ is very common in many cultures.
