That wasn’t what I said.
At least even if you had more negative ratings than positive ratings it really wouldn’t hurt you on here. It just means that image wouldn’t get featured. Youtube is another story by far.
I’m friends with a struggling Youtuber. He makes decent money working for someone else’s channel, but his own channel suffers because we think he’s got some stalker using alt accounts to sabotage his channel. Like within the span of 5 minutes of uploading, one of his videos got 3 downvotes at once. The video was a super detailed horse run cycle.
Ratings actually effect how visible your videos are on there, so it’s really hurting him. Meanwhile, he’s spent years and years on this big Zelda movie, and he can’t even finish it because he can’t get any voice actors. He’s been unable to grow and he’s always so depressed about it. It makes me really sad myself. He taught me everything I know about animating.
The only place I use “TheReal” part in is for DeviantArt. There’s already a “djthed” (my actual alias) registered to DeviantArt and I had to think of another alternative at the spot when registering there. :V
You. Not everyone can get “The Real DJ Thed” from your name if they skim it for less than a second. For instance, I had to re-read your name four times before I fully understood it… Your name is long. XD
If you ask me, 903 upvotes to 4 downvotes is basically 0 downvotes due to how negligible it is. I don’t see that as an abuse of downvotes even if they are trolls since the number of downvotes are so small, at least when it comes to the ratings of my animations on this site.
Of course it can still get abused and I’ve heard stories where it truly was abused into the ground, but what am I to say I’ve only been using this sight for barely under a half a year.
It’s kind of the reason I don’t agree with the concept of downvotes on here. It does get abused and there isn’t much point to it. 4 people looked at this and gave it what is essentially a zero. You can nitpick until you’re blue in the face, but I fail to see how anything in this warrants an F from someone.
People tried to argue with me about it on the forums, but there’s not a thing you could tell me to convince me otherwise: The 4 people who downvoted this are merely trolls. They do it because they are hardcore edgelords.
Someone suggested this on the forums, and I think it’s a great idea. The downvote button should be replaced with a hide button. Don’t like something? It’s gone from your sight. A feature that would do what it needs to do without being an abusable.
Either way though, it really doesn’t matter. It’s not like a kitten dies every time someone downvotes something. It has no impact on the world, or even the image. It’s just kind of there.
The downvotes aren’t really a huge deal when there’s this many upvotes. I don’t think there’s a single image on this site that has this amount of upvotes and has gone without someone downvoting it.
