One of my favorite I got was on a pic I drew of Cream the rabbit (from the Sonic series) holding a rifle & looking nuts, some li’l girl goes something like, “You better not be making fun of Cream! I am angry, and I have PMS!”
They’re like “OH THERE’S AN OC YOU’RE SO FUCKING CLICHE [insert slur here]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1”, amirite?
Unfortunately, some don’t. Also, some don’t know how to give it.
I know how to handle comment and critique without getting mad over every little thing.
From the POV of that kid, he’s talking to that artist for the 1st time.
For the artist though, he’s the 100th user who makes the same stupid complaint, the 100th user who fails to read the description, and so on. I appreciate those artists who are able to post an upbeat response to EVERY comment because I know how much personal attention matters to fans and visitors, and also how difficult is to do that again and again when you’re the target.
So even if I receive cold, dismissive, even angry responses from an artist, I remind myself that I am merely person/item #337 in that comment chain, and if he replied to me then he probably replied to the other 336 and so I can forgive him for not being at his most creative/emphatic. I hate joyless chores too.
Personally though? I absolutely adore an artist who knows how to handle comment and critique.
If instead of throwing a hissy fit you left me a funny response, or a thank you, or even went as far as to consider what I told you I thought you should do, you can be sure I will visit your page again, because such a cool person is to keep a close eye on. So it’s good policy, if you’re (wo)man enough for it.
A personal level between an artist and his followers is far nicer. Otherwise it all would feel so meaningless
oh m-may i ask whats with them? I’d like to know cuz i like their art. Maybe in private to not call them out loud here for hate

Thanks, but we’ll see. I’ve been kinda depressed lately, so maybe that’s why I just feel so bad here. Maybe I just need a short vacation.
it really is situational in diferent cases yes but lets completely ignore those who interpret ‘assholes’ totally wrong. They are the stupid ones that can’t judge social standards over their own shitty behavior.
Its not worthy and has no goal when you include or even try to make it clear to them very often.
I agree its absolutely possible and happening that people in general due to how they live don’t learn some important social interaction
And that is a tricky part to judge and understand when you meet those.
It’s a little rough for artists. A good portion of them likely got into art because they’re not terribly socially gifted in the first place, and drawing is a nice way to pass the time. To continue to excel at one’s craft one spends even more time on their own, not learning useful social skills. The person may or may not be cognizant of their own behavior, and may not be aware of how their own behavior is not serving themselves not others well.
What’s also interesting is why someone might be calling someone artist an asshole. “Why won’t you draw for free for me??” expecting someone to bend over backwards for their demands might cause someone to call an artist an “asshole”, when they’re actually making reasonable demands.
I guess it’s really situational.

I think that being an artist is not a “risk factor” for being an asshole
I’ve met very few artists who are assholes. Most of the artists I know are some of the nicest people in the fandom.
No it most definitely is not.
Being an asshole is going to negatively effect your public image, which can negatively impact everything you do, especially if you try to make a living as an artist.
I dunno man, that’s not a very good metric, I’ve triggered the living crap out of some people and haven’t got a duck yet, so you never really know.
Then again, maybe those people deserved it lmao.
But you know what? Who cares what Nietzsche thought. There are things worth fighting for, there are things worth defending, and whatever pervasive miasma exists that makes us always see things as worse than they are (even when indications exist that things are actually improving), we are capable of being smarter and better than that. OK, yes, maybe life isn’t great at the moment, but the potential to get better is always there, and with enough effort and time (and more effort, and more time), it will.
And hey, @Beau Skunky. don’t really know you, but seem pretty nice. And far more fun than some of the empty husks of antipathy I see in the season discussion threads at times. I hope you stick around, to balance out some of those other types.
what @Vinyl Fluff said. You don’t have a duck or mystery badge so clearly you’re not that bad.
Ouch man, that sucks.
For what it’s worth, I like you. I’ve not seen really anything from you that I would think of as being negative or detrimental. In fact, quite the opposite. Don’t let a few people with nasty opinions ruin your day. There always seem to be someone, in every fandom, who will hate your guts just because you don’t share their opinion or you disagree with them on something.
True, and I realize that. I’m not “leaving the fandom foreverz” I’m just considering a vacation from Derpi’, sense I haven’t really been enjoying things here, and it’s becoming an ordeal being hassled. One guy (out of respect, I won’t say who) whom used to be friendly to me, and discussed things with me even told me the reason he temporarily left this place was partially because of me, and that’s very disheartening, and disapointing to hear that my presence isn’t really wanted, it doesn’t make me feel welcome here, or in the brony fandom either. I’d love to gladly talk things out with people who dislike me, but I doubt they’ll wish to listen.
There’s just too much stress to deal with here, and I get enough of that IRL. I come here to relax, but it’s just getting worse lately.

Ironically, the Sonic thread in the forums has actually been quite pleasant, and people in there have been nice, and respectful of others’ opinions. Which is funny, ’cause I used to have more problems with the Sonic fandom. (Especially, over my satirical/comical Sonic fanart on DA, which some took too seriously.)

You’re gonna find assholes everywhere on the internet and in real life, they’re gonna be assholes regardless of their cognitive or physical abilities, regardless of interests. Leaving a fandom won’t make a difference, you’ll just run into them elsewhere instead.
That’s the reason why I permanently left the S7 discussion thread. One person in the vent thread said that finding a positive episode discussion thread here is like finding a prostitute in a church. I’m REAL tired of the “stop liking what I don’t like” shit, I agree.
…Dammit, I’m having “true Sonic fan” flashbacks too!
