Agreed. That is word for word my opinion on WHY what I said happens (did that make sense? English is not my first language). Except I also think that the way the fandom loves Luna is to blame too, along with the writers’ simple disinterest in Celestia as a character.
To be honest, I’m convinced that someone in charge just hates the character and likes to see fans getting annoyed.
In conclusion, I don’t like it. But I can’t change the fact that everything good about Celestia feels like excuses and her participation in the cartoon amounts to failure and someone else fixing her messes.
Celestia exists as she does because FiM writers are stepping on the same stupid blood-and-brains-covered rake basically everyone else does: tell about competence and have her defeated to show how dire the threat is, but utterly fail to show said competence in action.
I’d hate to quiz them on the lowest point in their lives, but other than that Nightmare Moon incident, I don’t know when else they’ve been separated.
How much do you want to bet that if there was an episode where Luna must do something related to ruling the country, it would start with Luna messing up slightly, whining a bit and then beating the problem with flying colors?
The idea of Celestia in that episode barely makes it into fanfiction and most of the times she still messes up because people hate seeing Celestia doing anything that resembles competence.
I’m a fan, but let’s face it: Celestia exists to be Luna’s big sister (every whinny teenager needs one) and Equestria’s damsel in distress as a heavy-handed signal to the audience that things aren’t going well. In a good day, she’s a stage prop that isn’t really necessary but amuses the producers.
That’s a good point, actually. Yes, it’s true, Luna does well with children. It’s adults she has trouble with.
Celestia, in comparison, we hardly ever see interacting with anypony but adults. Maybe she doesn’t quite know how.
Maybe if she rules people even less put-together than her.
I mean, for a former crazy person, she does well with kids.
Luna isn’t the most stable of personalities. She’s gotten better, but I doubt she should lead all by herself.
Personally, I’m glad most things the fandom comes up with never really make it into canon.
@Tragiclady
Well that or people trying to start shit.
But I think it’s mostly the memeing.
