I don’t think Rarity really wanted the money OR status when she pursued Blueblood. Instead, she seemed to be attracted to the romantic concept of the dashing prince itself.

Everyone seems to think that just because she is beautiful she can get anyone she wants. This has been shown in the series on multiple occasions. But she isn’t finding someone that likes her for being just herself. It is a reoccuring theme in this series. You can get one night flings, or fulfill her weird kinks, but she can’t help but still have that emptiness inside. She isn ow seeing Twilight’s true happiness, and wants that herself. She realized during the “sleep over” episode that her happiness was a facade.
