It is really silly looking, but entertaining :D
Having the wings on the horse part of the centaur does make the most logical sense.

It really is an aesthetics problem rather than a physics problem, but I can’t help but imagine this comparison:
your current filter.I can never not imagine that pegasus centaurs with their wings on the “human” back having to fly like Fluttershy does in said picture. It’s really silly looking.
While it would look cool, I don’t think it would be all that effective in helping them fly.
Then again, I keep thinking pegasus characters in the show shouldn’t be able to fly with such a small wingspan, and then I dismiss it all as pegasus magic.
Just reminds me of this.
It just looks ridiculous to me when I see it, I can’t help but imagine that they look super stupid when they’re flying.
