Good idea. My own take is that the Princesses have their ‘Nightmare forms’ that they use when they need to fight or just intimidate an enemy. Which means newly-alicorned Twilight might get one heck of a surprise soon when her own ‘war form’ appears.

Am I the only one who thinks the form of Nightmare Moon is not Luna’s evil self but actually her “hyper” form (along the line of Super Saiyans)? We saw Luna assume that form in LE, and she is not a shapeshifter like the changelings as far as we know.
 
Imagine Celestia and Luna becoming Solar Flare and Nightmare Moon to defeat a massive threat.
 
Sadly, that idea opens a plot hole with Celestia’s defeat in ACRW that would have to be filled in.
 
I think the two princesses each have three forms, an powerless one based on their younger selves (Woona and pink-haired Celestia), the mature, tall forms they usually assume, and an advanced form that takes up magical power they use in emergencies (or messing around on Nightmare Night). At least the first two forms seem implied in fanon, but I do not see much material that tries to formalize it.
