Description
It’s possible to change the BIOS bootsplash screen on most modern thinkpads. Ant it’s pretty simple.
Just save properly formed image to the BIOS Flash Update Utility direcory and reflash.

- Download and install Thinkpad BIOS Flash Update Utility (default location C:\DRIVERS\FLASH) Do not run update after instllation.
- Check your instructions at C:\DRIVERS\FLASH<your bios version>\BIOS_LOGO.TXT
Image preparation (for x230) - Create 640x320 image.
- Open image in IrfanView
- Stretch it to 640x480. Image -> Resize -> Uncheck “Preserve aspect ratio” -> Height: 480 -> Ok.
- Press Image -> Decrease color depth -> Custom: 150
- Make sure that checkboxes “Use best color quality” and “Use Floyd-Steinberg dithering” are checked.
- Click OK.
- Save as logo1.gif In my case “C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\gcuj25us\logo1.gif”
- If file size is more then 30kb repeat steps 4-7 with lower colors value. (See BIOS_LOGO.TXT)
- Run WINUPTP.EXE and follow the instructions.
