Eeyup.
Not liking*
Alright, I just get tired of people playing that card over not like a headcanon of all things.
That made my day. Thank you.
Okay I know I abandoned the thread and all that, but are you fucking serious? Not liking the idea that a same-sex couple can magically shit out a baby is apparently homophobic? So does liking FlutterDash/ScratchTavia/BraeMac mean you hate straight/bi people?
This might come as a shocker to you, but people can not like something in fiction and still tolerate it in reality. And #CDE3 is right, “magic” is used way to excessively as an excuse for whatever. I know this may be hard, but, it’s a general rule of thumb, but having magic gives you more rules to follow, not less. If you use magic to bypass rules or barricades that the world, logic, biology, etc. makes, you’re using it as a cop-out.
“I can’t think of a way this would make sense, so I’m going to brush it off as just being magic lawl!”
Edited because: Trimming some fat at the end.
Or maybe, some people actually enjoy the idea of their genes being passed down. Shocking, I know.
To me it sounds like if someone who is from the 1900’s saw what we have now and could do technology wise they’d say we’re lazy cause we use science to solve some of our problems that they could only dream of solving. Who is anyone to say what limitations something should or shouldn’t have?
That’s…. exactly what they’re saying though?
Oh i’m sorry, it’s: have kids through adoption or don’t have them at all! Doesn’t really sound that lenient to me, and sounds borderline homophobic. The complaints make no sense and you could bitch about any of the magic on there, or magic in general.
Honestly, the fandom abuses magic as an Ex Machina than the show at this point, since the show only uses that for the premiers and finals, and the fandon when ever it’s convent, like MLS/MGS.
People disliking magic used to solve every solution/problem is a perfectly valid reason given how overpowered it can be in the show and such. So let’s hold off on the ‘if you don’t like ‘magical lesbian spawn’ you don’t want same-sex couples to have children accusation .
Does that mean that straight couples having a kid, via the common way is a “cliche trope” because it happens more often than a MLS, and the straight couple should of adopted instead? Look, some of ya’ll just hate the idea of same sex couples having kids of their own, which is fine. But don’t hide behind bullshit reasoning like you actually have a objectively valid reason for disliking something.
This is a world where they have crazy good magic, I don’t really see it as too much of a stretch that they can do something like this,(it’d be a further stretch for a gay couple, but they could have a surrogate mother if you really had a hard time thinking of a sensible way they could have biological kids).
If people didn’t abused it to death, I might have agreed with you. However, there are many times when it doesn’t make sense, like Gilda/Dash MLS (Magical Lesbian Spawn) or Garble/Fizzle MGS (Magical Gay Spawn), and is just a way for people to ship same-sex characters without resorting to GASP adoptions, like in real life. It always has been, and will be, a cheap cop out.
Cop out? I’ve always seen it as changing an egg into a sperm (which would honestly take very little genetic work when compared to changing birds into oranges) and then fertilize that way. Less of a cop out and more of something they could actually do with magic. What exactly would they be cop-outing of?
Heck, give it a century (maximum) and I bet we’ll have the know how to be able to create male gamete cells from purely female cells. With a complete knowledge of the human genome, advanced ASI, powerful enough computers, and a method to do so, it’s only a matter of time before custom gentic reprograming could be done on an individual basis for anything you like. The only thing you could argue is that it’s a cliché troupe in mlp fan media. But hardly a cop-out.
That said, I personally don’t like it very much. But I don’t dislike it either. Different strokes and all that. As long as they make the methodology internally consident in their story. Because that’s truly all I care about.
Mate, I had a sigh of relief reading that. (No offence intended to those who like it) I’ve always found the “Magical Lesbian/Gay Spawn” to be a cheap cop out.
Through true love and alicorn magic
Overused in comparison to the “old fashioned way”? No, not by any stretch of the imagination.
I find it strange that we both came to the same conclusion (making the same joke) literally seconds from one another. Even if we were wrong, it was kind of a weird coincidence.
Edited
Apology excepted. Magical lesbian spawn are overused anyway.
