[Previous][Index][Next][Follow me on twitter?]* * Love is a funny thing. More than just apparently being a substance that some creatures can feed on and turn into magical strength, there’s also the more poetic aspect that resonates with love in our reality. Love can drive us to do great things, and uplift us to an almost heavenly or god-like stature in the heart. That kind of power, I think, is something that counts for far more than when its gained through true merit, like Celestia, rather than deception and seduction, like Chrysalis.“You have a lot to think about.” Seriously, Celestia. What the hell? Is it really that hard to say something like “Your brother still loves you, he’ll remember in time”? Or even another aesop like “I know you’re upset, but it’s his life, and his choice who he gives his heart to. Now go to him. I’ll be by your side if you like.“What. The. Hell. * *My Little Pony (c) Hasbro,Friendship is Magic was created by and assistants.

from my point of view, twilight was angry, sure, but everyone else who had a roll to play got to self absorbed making excuses for her currently shitty behaviour, especially when canterlot was bubbled because shit was going to go down.

Hell, at the very least celestia should have noticed something had changed.

I don’t think Celestia should’ve dismissed her and that was that. Regarding Twilight’s emotional state at the time she should’ve addressed that as well as Cadence’s abnormal behavior. But for the sake of the plot, Celestia didn’t attempt to understand why Twilight was acting this way and instead abandoned her.

The setup was flawed, but I can’t forgive the way the characters acted.

There are a lot of complaints to be made against Celestia, but her “You have a lot to think about.” moment is not one.

There is a trope called Fourth Wall Myopia which is heavily in play in A Canterlot Wedding. So many viewers said that everypony was unfair to Twilight, but that is only because the viewers followed her perspective and got invested in her motivations.

In-universe, from the perspective of anypony else, Twilight became irrationally angry the moment she heard of the wedding – before she even knew who the bride was – and then got worse and worse. Her constant complaints against the bride were actually quite petty, and she gave the impression of someone who’d already made up her mind and wouldn’t give the bride a chance. Her friends tried to talk to her and reason out her objections, but it was Twilight who yelled, smacked the table, and stormed off. At the wedding rehearsal, her accusations were all (seemingly) disproven, and she was acting emotionally unhinged. She didn’t present a reasonable case, she went on a tirade, with a satisfied smile on her face when she drive the bride to tears. She excluded herself from the wedding when she said she wouldn’t stand beside her.

Twilight was acting cruel, jealous, and a little nuts.

“You have a lot to think about.” was completely on-point.
