Not exactly. This is only in the manga, but when Ryuuk tells Light he can neither go to heaven nor hell for using the Death Note Light brushes it off saying he was an atheist that didn’t believe in that anyway(which doesn’t really bode well when he didn’t believe the Death Note would work, nor did he believe Shinigami existed and immediately changed his tune when he saw otherwise. Nothing is ever confirmed if there’s an afterlife as both the Shinigami and humans are both mortal (Shinigami will all eventually die when the human race dies out and they can’t extend their lives by killing them) and when they die they can’t return and confirm whether there exists something after they die.
 
In the anime there’s a lot of Christic imagery and even the ending you have Light seeing L’s spirit looking down on him though it could be argued that this was Light hallucinating.

it has been a long time since i read death note, but i thought it was revealed shortly before the end of light’s story, that the reason death note users cant go to heaven or hell, is because there is no heaven or hell, in the death note universe, just oblivion

Huh…so technically, that means angel derpy shouldn’t even be there! O.o

Fun killer here, two things:  
1.) Technically Derpy wouldn’t picture herself when writing her name, but it’s required of the Death Note for a name and a face (in your head) to kill. And who pictures themselves when they write their name?  
2.) If she did use it properly using the Death Note bars you from the afterlife.

In an bonus comic episode, another death note made it into the world dropped by a female shinigami and a second Kira started, but became overwhelmed by the stress and wrote his name killing himself.
 
Also pretty sure this wouldn’t work on Derpy unless she pictured herself when signing her name.

I feel like we treat Derpy like an idiot since she is cross eyed and mentally disabled, which is probably insulting to people with mental disabilities, which was the reason Hasbro changed her voice in The Last Roundup.

It was in the live action movie. L wrote his name down in the Death Note so that he’d die a month later. He did that so that he’d be immune to the Death Note, therefore Rem couldn’t kill him, and thus he’d be able to reveal Light as Kira before he died.

It’s not a written rule, because there shouldn’t be a person dumb enough to actually write their own name in the Death Note, unaware that they do are going to die.

I think these rules might be the movie version - at one point I remember L using the Deathnote to shorten his own life in a convoluted plot to catch Kira. Very sure that doesn’t happen in the anime though, I could be wrong.
