I think it was that brief period of recollection for them before they decide to make Starlight’s village their own home. But yeah, perhaps it might be an error.
That being said, nice Kurumi avatar.
Fear and intimidation would be the reason they stayed. “No one ever wants to leave”, lying cult leader Glimmer said, and all that it implies. I’m sure some of them did like the village life, but it seemed clear most were unhappy inside, even if they would never admit it.
But yeah, probably hyperbole to some degree.
Yeah but everyone? And if they wanted to escape you have to wonder why they stay in Our Town then. I want to think Starlight is just overblowing it.

Well, there was Sugar Belle, Party Favor and Nightglider who secretly wanted their cutie marks back. It’s not a stretch that there were many villagers who secretly wanted to leave but had to force a smile and comply with the cult or risk getting stuffed into the brainwashing hut.
Because in comics with Andy as artist they have more character than in the show
