I believe Richard is either one of those long suffering spouses, who as long as they remain loyal, will stick with their partner through any and all insanity. Or he has lost faith/trust in his own species on a level we somehow can’t perceive, and as such is unconcerned with the hazards of their relationship when he considers the alternative.

because hes also a man of simple needs and pleasures. A smarter man would of bailed on her a while ago due to her almost killing him a few times… But a simple man with simple pleasures just needs a good cuddle and he wont go anywhere.
