I don’t understand this…
xD
English translation:
But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing of a pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?
On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammeled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains.
Actually it’s a popular placeholder text often used in web and print design. The text itself is an abstract of Cicero’s “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” - so yes, it is indeed Latin. More info (including translation) here
I’m just going to guess that this is Latin. I bet if I could read and understand this, I might be able to cast some magic.
I disagree, everything you said is wrong.

With all the walls of text in here, I figured I might as well contribute.
You seems to be easily amused. Those are unicorns, not unicorn magicians (the distinction is canonic, IE Sunburst is a unicorn, but admittedly not a magician, he is a theorsit. Unicorns that only know basic spells, like telekinesis and something related to their special ability, are not considered magicians in Equestria).
But, if Trixie is only a stage magician, there is no need for her to be able to control weather. It’s not something related to magic shows. So, if she can control weather, it’s cause she knows real magic. Magic is her special ability. Stage magic is her job.
In reality, in the few seconds we seen Trixie doing magic in “Boast Busters” she shown a versatility bested only by Discord in the same screentime (at least until the appearance of Starlight Glimmer).
Finally, Equestria Girls is not show canon.
I’m amused that you completely forgot other unicorns we’ve seen: Rarity, Sweetie Belle, Snails, just to name three more. Then there is Sunset who was also Celestia’s pupil. Or the unicorns in the Royal Guard. Or, well, Shining Armor.
The thing is, magic that is not used leaves room for speculation. Twilight also had a couple of friends at school (Amending Fences) which for sure are capable of various spells - there was just no need to show off any spells there.
Oh, one more thing. I don’t really count the amulet thing. It empowered her spells and isn’t representative of her true magical abilities
Edited because: Forgot something
I wouldn’t be surprised if Trixie started improving in magic now that she’s friends with Starlight, nothing stops Starlight practice the stuff she does with Twilight with Trixie instead, sure on slower pace but eventually she could show formidable results.
“Trixie’s magic skills are basically limited to levitation, manipulation of weather and fireworks”
And those powers alone are enough to make her the only real unicorn magician (bar Twilight) we have seen in the show until the appearance of Starlight Glimmer.
However, the extent of the powers of Trixie is hard to say, since it depends from what we believe she made only with smoke and screens. But, assuming that all we have seen her doing in “Boast Busters” (and without the amulet in “Magic Duel”) is real magic, we have:
2)Pyrokinesis (she is at least capable to light the fuse of her fireworks, and maybe those same fireworks are pyrotechnical spells. During the display at the end of “Magic Duel”, her horn is glowing).
That’s pretty impressive, counting that the time we seen Trixie doing spells in “Boast Busters” (and without the amulet in “Magic Duel) is very limited.
I’d love to see Dash get tased for being a thief. We need this more.
With the Alicorn Amulet, Trixie could have easily burned RD to ashes (and she was convinced she was wearing an amulet even more powerful than that) but, as her speech clearly implies, she only wanted to inflict her pain (remember that RD, from Trixie’s point of view, was only a thief. Trixie purchased that amulet), so she restrained her spell a lot.
In the subsequent scene, Trixie tries the taser spell a second time, that time surely with greater strenght, and RD, wisely, decides to dodge it.
Not entirely true. All pegasi can control the weather just like all unicorns can use magic. But not all pegasi have a profession as weather pony. There are a lot of factors to keep in mind, like wing power, agility and speed.
Okay, so her magic ability is simple: it starts with pranks and worst case scenario is an embarrassing electric shock. That makes perfect sense now. I see what you mean.
>Harry Potter seems like a bad example, at least for your point. The level on how well the wizards perform is mostly luck.
It’s actually a good example. Harry isn’t the only useful character, and the plot doesn’t bend over backwards to serve him like it does for twilight and her clone. There’s an entire school dedicated to wizards like Harry, he’s not infinity above his friends and the rest of the wizards.
>And not all wizards can perform all spells equally good.
Nobody is contesting talent, but there is a line between talented and bullshit.
>Starlight isn’t a “cheap knockoff clone” of Twilight.
Her character fills the role of twilight, they even made a lesson zero 2.0 just for her. She’s a copy down to the very name, but with a cheap and poorly thought out backstory, motivation and reformation. She adds nothing good to the series that couldn’t have been accomplished better with existing, more original characters.
>when does questioning the claim of “Greatest Unicorn in All of Equestria” excuse humiliating others to make yourself look great.
Lets conveniently forget how they got into her face right as the show began and taunted her. They specifically complain about her showing off at her own performance.
>None of the three ever touched Trixie.
Aside from getting in her face, taunting her, and ripping down her property, they kind of were complete assholes. While Trixie was mildly antagonistic, they started the whole thing and gave Trixie valid reason to defend her show and her integrity at the same time showing how resourceful and skilled she was with magic.
>cheap excuse only because your favorite character didn’t become part of the main cast
Never said that she had to be a main character.
>Oh, sure Twilight held the show back. That’s why she doesn’t appear in every episode anymore, right?
That’s why every important plot ever revolved around her previously, and now it revolves around new pink twilight. The mane five are useless outside of being power batteries for them.
>she definitely didn’t start as the most powerful unicorn
Celestia herself said that.
>Nobody forces you to root for Twilight or Starlight.
And why would they? I should be able to root for them on my own, it’s they story’s fault, it’s the showrunners fault for making them bland mary sues favored by destiny in every possible way. Just look at what pink twilight gets away with.
@Background Pony #26F0
Nobody forces you to root for Twilight or Starlight. The only reason I am still replying is because you seem to be caught in the construct anybody wants to make your Trixie look bad. Trixie went through a pretty good development phase, becoming a better pony with each appearance on the show. But - and that’s important - neither is she perfect, she has a pretty bad reputation - especially after enslaving Ponyville - and she simply is far from being the “Greatest Unicorn in All of Equestria”.
And that’s actually a good thing. Every character in FiM is unique, has a personality, strengths, weaknesses and flaws. That’s what make every character lovable in their own way. And that’s one of the reasons why the show is so popular. Twilight was undeniably for a long time the most important character of the show. But all other ponies were always important to make it whole.
>unicorns know basic magic. And the potential of their magic varies
Nobody ever contested this, I know how useless everyone is in comparison. My problem is with how ridiculously overpowered Twilight is, and how all unicorns can’t do anything but like two spells maybe at max. Most of them can’t even open a pickle jar. “Basic magic” means absolutely nothing, all the spell books are useless to everyone but twilight and pink sociopath twilight. The gap in ability is retarded, it’s like if I was born with superman powers, but I was just a human like everyone else. These are the traits of a bad oc.
I also gave you an example of trixie’s magic clearly having an effect on rainbow dash, wasn’t so useless then was it?
I did have a counter argument, I explained to you that trixie was using a torture spell, which wasn’t a spell she knew how to use without the amulet.
Twi is the miss perfect everyone hates in school, the stereotype is still there even though MLP was a little unique about it. I gotta agree there
you can’t just call it bullshit when you don’t do a counterargument… I’m sorry, but you didn’t prove me wrong!
