I hate it when I see that in a library book. It really drives me nuts when I find hand-written notes in them. THAT makes my head want to explode.

Yeah, maybe. Big brains, thin skin.
I get the idea Tim Burton was going to make it more serious, then saw ID4 was in production and said “Oh the hell with it” and made mars Attacks as goofy as possible. They both are good films, but I think Mars Attacks has aged better. Plus, you know, Slim Whitman making aliens’ brains explode.
