It is true that the creator also produced predecessors to the modern polygraph. That’s the truth part. The lasso part is unequivocably fetishism, especially when considering that it is by no means the only bondage element of the early Wonder Woman setting, or of the contemporary culture in general.
It is still completely hypocritical that Wonder Woman has been accepted as a feminist icon despite her offending on all of the obtuse charges that feminists discount other, equally if not more worthy female iconography. Feminists normally do not care how thoughtful something is or “how far it’s come”; once a man has touched it, they will discard it out of hand as misogynistic.
Unless, of course, it is more profitable not to do so, as Wonder Woman is.
Besides, it’s not like she hasn’t developed at all since her creation. Even Batman and Superman were different in the 40s. Judging a character based solely on who created them and some basic, preconceived idea of how they came to be, and ignoring what made them popular and how they’ve changed and developed under new writers as time has passed and literally everything else in their history, is absolutely the wrong way to go here.
That explains everything, honestly
I believe the writers reference Wonder Woman for Applejack’s power set.
Like Applejack, Wonder Woman has a lasso. In fact, it’s the “Lasso of Truth” - she can ensare folks with it to make them tell the truth. Applejack is a skimpy outfit and a pair of bulletproof boobs away from being Wonder Horse.
@illuminati
Tangent time!!!
Wonder Woman was invented by a slightly-horny male psychologist in the middle of a highly sexually-charged era where bondage and femdom were popular - hence said lasso. I find it highly ironic that she ever became a feminist icon. They’re always shunning everything that was “made for the male gaze” or “sexually objectifies women”, yet Wonder Woman who openly and self-admittedly embodied both gets a free pass. This is, of course, because feminism on the sociopolitical scale is a contrived fraud for profit and Wonder Woman is far more profitable as an ally than as an enemy.
XD ha ha hah.
It doesn’t. it’s channeling Pony Aj, not her element.
Yeah, probably the best response.
That’s like asking how Loyalty factors into speed. Just ignore it.
Happiny, though…
Masculinity’s overrated. THIS is HOT.
Well, he did get a brief tease with Sunset, at least.
@Dirty Bit
Lily needs to come back.
