On my last rewatch of FiM I was shocked by the lack of empathy and the callousness of early Starlight. She grows a conscience eventually, but no thanks to Twilight, who seems to have missed the point. Twilight is on about “it’s a friendship lesson, not a baking lesson,” when she should have been explaining to Starlight the basic principles of morality that she failed to grasp: “You see, Starlight, my friends are real ponies, not tools or objects to be used to your personal gain, who deserve your respect and from whom you must obtain consent.”
I haven’t read NMR, and DPDoMS makes perfect sense to me. Q.E.D.

You’re just grasping at straws at this point. We’ve debunked your theory many times and you refuse to accept that the comics simply are non-canon at worst and an alternate universe at best. Have fun living in your delusional fantasies.

Thanks.
Yeah, at best the comics are simply an alternate universe.
the theory that she powered up for “reasons,” then depowered to woona because she felt guilty, and just pretended she’d never been empowered, is invalidated by do princesses dream of electric sheep. luna felt super guilty in that ep, yet remained powered up. nightmare rarity simply didn’t take place in the same continuity as the show.
I could try to argue with you…
But I don’t feel like wasting my time and energy on someone who will dodge it and whine about how I don’t count the comics as canon.
I gave you reasons why Nightmare Rarity and DPDoMS cannot both be canon at same time and you ignored it, what else am I supposed to think? By the way, if they were, then Luna would be quite a lot less popular than she is, I’ll tell you that much.
nightmare rarity isn’t canon because of luna eclipsed. you know, back before they were afraid to defy the fans.
This review of the Nightmare Rarity arc can explain it better than I can.

What about Luna Eclipsed?
Or just Luna’s first line upon becoming Luna again?
Believe what you want….
Also, the Nightmare Forces are only a single entity. One that arguably made a name for itself in Ancient Anugypt. And one can argue that the black stuff that surrounded Luna as she became Nightmare Moon was the Nightmare Forces. Plus, the meaning behind Nightmare Rarity’s words when she says “Your powers have defeated me before, little ponies” is obvious.
@PonyPon: You do actually kinda do need the Nightmare Rarity arc to establish Luna’s guilt in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise, as it would have no justification.
If DPDoMS came before the Nightmare Rarity, it wouldn’t make sense because Luna wouldn’t have a legitimate reason to withhold the truth of the nightmare forces.
If Nightmare Rarity came first, it still wouldn’t make sense because then Luna wouldn’t have a legitimate reason to keep being punished by the Tantabus because she already had all the encouragement she needed from the aforementioned arc.
They are the exact same story told two different ways. If try to count them both as canon, they’ll pretty much cancel each other out.

yes, if you consider the comics to be canon. but the show only showed luna get covered in darkness and turn nightmarey. the show didn’t specify that there were nightmare forces as several individuals with names like shadowfright, jerome and larry.
luna went nmm before even going to the moon, so what made her that way has nothing to do with the shadow forces. really the shadow forces were just dream uh… boogies that also got corrupted by the nightmare, whatever it was.
if you consider the comics to be canon, the nightmare also corrupted apples, but the apples aren’t the source of the corruption, just horribly bad writing we all wish we could forget.
Does it count as an external entity if it’s something you made on your own, without visible influence?
I don’t recall the Tantabus being like the nightmare forces, more like an animated, self-propelled spell of singular purpose.

the tantabus episode does establish that the nightmare could have been an external entity, that princess luna created.
the nightmare rarity arc still isn’t canon though, because in luna eclipsed, princess luna said that the ponies of ponyville never liked her, despite already being powered up.
