BP is probably referring to how ruby is the needy one whenever they split up (prioritizing sapphire over everyone in jailbreak flirting with sapphire and jeopardizing their mission in hit the diamond) to the point that she barely qualifies to be a single character (needs sapphire to be garnet).

  1. Well, not really close. Ruby is a very smart Ruby, and her to rebel, means a lot, as Rubies in general, are stupidly loyal to the Diamonds. This would rather show how strong in character is Sunset.
     
  2. Mess, no, neither relationship is a mess. Codependent? Kinda. Well, it’s a bit complicated, but Sunset, after the first movie in Rainbow Rocks and Friendship games, very looked up to pony Twilight, while in Legend of Everfree, SciTwi is indeed somewhat emotionaly dependant on Sunset, and Sunset is very protective of her.
