Description
Uploading this here to immortalize it….. The show referenced the official comics for the first time!
Your move.
Edit: Saw that someone added the tag “edited screencap”. Before anyone gets convenient ideas, especially some certain haters of the official comics who search for an argument to denounce them as non-canon still:
Nope, the screencap is not edited. They were seen with the same filly guide outfits in that very episode, nothing was added or altered after taking the screenshot.
The tag was just added because I fused the picture with a panel from the official comics and because this was apparently misinterpreted as an edit of the screenshot.
Which, since it isn’t, was reversed by me now, but in case it gets insisted on the wrongly used tag, as it is the norm here on Derpibooru:
You now know that you can’t use this as argument to further delude you into your headcanon of the official comics being alternate universe.
Still your move.

Either way, fair enough.
The several “drama” tags here on Derpibooru have a long history of getting abused by haters who apply them to a picture (or the discussion under a picture) every time the truth they want to cover up comes to light, in the hopes many won’t see the picture/discussion anymore then because many users filter the drama tags to not see any drama.
This happens especially often with the “Drama in the Comments” tag, but can happen with other “drama” tags as well.
I have no idea if this was your reason for adding those tags, as well, or if you just interpreted it as drama and wanted to have the tags as what you believe is exact for this upload.
But this is an important truth that needed to be put into the fandom’s consciousness more, which is why I took the opportunity when the show referenced the official comics for the first time and uploaded this last year after “28 Pranks Later” aired.
Granted, the already thin arguments of the official comics not being canon have crumbled completely at the beginning of this year when it got revealed that the official comics will start to tie in with the show directly, but people could still filter this out via the drama tag because drama annoys them and it’s important to get the message across that elements of the comic have started appearing in the show before that announcement already.
Besides, this is not an upload to incite drama, its purpose is more to finally end it, by showing that those who were always aware of it that the official comics are canon have won. There isn’t much space for the haters’ drama here anymore, since it can’t be really argued with the evidence presented here anymore.
For these two reasons, I removed the drama tags. The evidence seen here is too important to be filtered out by those tags, which would prevent it from contributing to finally eliminate this falsehood about the official comics for good this year.
I am by no means disagreeing with the point brought up in said description, though.
100% of Celestia fans would love it if that happened.
It would be a tragic loss of Yakyakistan lives, but Celestia would be incredibly relevant. :D
Especially since, in the recording, she’s answering a fan question about a “comic where Celestia turn Yakyakistan into a smoking crater and asks Twilight what other countries she wants to spread friendship to”. Duh, of course they can’t read FAN comics. Those will never be canon no matter how you slice it.
Hey, I even found that comic.
She’s the lead character designer meaning she’s up there as far as the totem pole goes.
I think the comics can be treated as secondary material.
a character designer for the show is the last person I would believe about the Comics being Canon or not
Only Reflections and the Rarara/Babs comics are considered canon IIRC, the latter because foreshadowing and the former just to kick sand in our faces.
That was Maud. Pinkie only has 3 sisters.
Non-canonical. Non-canonical. NON-CANONICAL!
It’s definitely more apparent with the books, Igneous’, Cloudy’s, Marble’s, and Limestone’s names, and Pinkie’s yet unnamed fourth sister. Cadance’s alledge past reaffirms the concept her age is faaaaar lower than her aunts’, though, I suppose it was already with her younger, very recent appearance. Berrow even referenced Whinny Land, Applewood. REFERENCECEPTION, LEL.
The idea being the show, comics, books, and EG aren’t mutually exclusive. They never were. However, as aforementioned, it’s not absolutely required to know anything about past events of terms to enjoy later stories. Imagine one going into Inuyasha or Dragon Ball Z after it had been on the air for one or two years. Now imagine one going into Dexter’s Lab after it had been five years since its Pilot Episode. The franchise as it is is mostly like the latter, and its level of continuity is subtle enough that anything can be considered a starting point for any individual of any age, under the right circumstances.
That just makes Discord’s annoyance make even more sense if he considers it a children’s game :)
(Context: he’s with the CMC in that panel)
Edited
sure
Also the CMC was friendly with discord in that comic and this happen in the show some episode after that comic

Well, actually, there was a recent interview with the show’s head character, where she explicitly said that the comics are not canon to the events of the show.

At around the 88 minute mark.
Sorry, but turning girls into scouts is so generic that doesn’t prove anything.

I think you missed my point. I was leaning more on the side of believing this wasn’t an intentional comic reference. Based on previous track record I believe this is a coincidence more than anything.
Ogres and Oubliettes had to be an intentional reference though, but even that ain’t definitive proof that the comics happened in continuity with the show. And I say this as someone who kinda wants it to be.
Similarly to not requiring one to play FFI in order to play FFIV. Ooh, or enjoying the Blood and Cornettos Trilogy, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and At World’s End, each by themselves. :j

Although, “Dungeons & Discords” aired two weeks later, so the second reference to the official comics happened after that one.
Still, only two weeks later the next reference already….. That’s impressive, I didn’t see that coming. I knew there would be more, but not so soon.

Oh no….. It’s not the filly guide outfits. We’ve seen them before in the show.
It’s the fact that Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle are members of the filly guides. :3
Something the official comics showed us first.
@Dustcan
Absolutely. I fully expect the comic canon deniers now to come up with straw-grasping explanations why this “doesn’t mean anything and has changed nothing”, while they struggle to accept the truth.
They’re not really the kind of people to let got of their year-long falsehoods when their only argument ever why the official comics aren’t canon is suddenly gone.
Can you hear this? It’s the sound of them eating their hearts out. It’s everywhere.
@dynamicv
Precisely. Now that one reference has dropped, more will come. In fact, it already happened.
You should watch “Dungeons & Discords” again for a second, major reference to the official comics.
I’m not upset, merely frustrated with my own memory span. I’m pretty sure if I was asked stuff about this season, I’d have to look up the answers and double check to be sure :3
