I want to move from traditional media to digital, so I picked up an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil, and am still working through the learning curve and trying to figure out what they can do, and how to get the same effects digitally that I’m used to getting with paper and pencil.
This is drawn in Tayasui Sketches Pro, which so far seems like a very handy tool, and took about 4 hours of sketching over 3 days.
So far my favorite thing about the iPad and Apple Pencil is that there’s absolutely no pain associated with using them. Normally after a half hour with traditional media I’d be reaching for the anti-inflamatories, but with this even after a solid hour of drawing I don’t have any carpal tunnel pain at all.
It’s … amazing. I really like it.

I’ve got a Bamboo too, and love it for editing on the desktop, but now that I’ve got the Apple Pencil I’m pretty much moving everything to it. It’s … immersive. When I’m using the Bamboo I never forget I have to match “this thing in my hands” to “that thing in front of me”.
not going to get rid of the Bamboo … I love it too much, but … I might not be using it too much …
it’s like an old stuffed toy now, that I feel bad about not playing with …
Thank you :) I want to try to spend more time getting things like the ear working right - but I over did it - I tried to draw too much of a horse’s ear, and ended up spending an hour just on that, and then … more learning curve with the layers, and by then everything was pretty much where it ended up.
I finally decided it was time to call it done and move on to the next thing.
But, thank you - I’m really enjoying digital drawing :) It’s fun!
