That’s because those concepts have way less to offer than actually expanding the world they’re in.
Just a toyline that barely have relation with the actual season just cutie mark magic toyline in the season 5.
Quite ironic that the fandom want this toyline reference being the main plot of the season now when everyone lose their mind with the alicorn drama in the season 3 or the new twilight castle in the season 4.
>Trottingham
British
>Vanhoover
Canadian
>Fillydelphia
Throw stuff at… some analogue of Santa Claus
>Baltimare
…
Also Lena Hall technically qualifies, so there’s 4.
But that said, the writers crafted episodes that worked well to highlight each of those four on their initial appearance while staying in appropriate world-building:
Other shows will pull celebrity actors (say like Gravity Falls) but rarely will they be in parts that fit well into the work.
Even so, the only celebrities that have been on the show are John, Weird Al, and Patton. All I’m saying is they haven’t done many celebrity episodes, and I don’t really consider the episodes John DeLancie stars in as celebrity episodes because he’s a recurring character.
>any year
Oy vey…
@Itsthinking
Yeah, it’s such a shame we were stuck with Rainbow Dash, Daring Do, and Quibble Pants going from a fandom convention to a jungle instead of following Celestia doing her cool thing.
@Background Pony #30A4
You are aware that one of the upcoming episodes is titled “Viva Las Pegasus”, right? And just how different do you expect Baltimare, Fillydelphia, Vanhoover, and Trottingham to be, anyway?
This season it’s happened twice. Patton Oswalt and well, John deLancie basically is one.
Hasn’t there been only only two celebrity episodes in mlp? I would hardly say it’s a “Schtick”.
The movie is explicitly about the ponies going beyond Equestria so I really hope everyone complaining about the lack of new areas now doesn’t do the inverse in about 13 months.
No, my point is that they used “Explore Equestria” for this season (and more specifically for the toys they wanted to have sold this season), and it looks like at least half the episodes will explore it even if it is visiting previous locations. They’re living up to that, just that all the locations aren’t new. Yes, they have plenty of locations they could still visit, but it takes resources at DHX to develop those.
S5 had about the same number of non-PV episodes too, though, so this is not unique to S6.
Every season visits new locations and their promo tagline has never been explore equestira.
It’s been six years and we have yet to visit:
They should’ve used a different tagline, is all I’m saying. Hasbro = Sean Murray
See, that’s the thing: S6 didn’t necessary promise new locations, just more locations:
So that’s 9-12 out of 26 episodes, and that’s of what we know. The griffon ep could be in Griffenstone, and the PPOV ep will likely involve the events while on the cruise, and we’re not even sure where the finale goes. That’s nearly half the season away from Ponyville. They are clearly exploring Equestria, just not new locations that I know some really desire.
And as someone who’s been waiting for Celestia to be relevant again, this type of episode pisses me off even more
Right…
@Masem
Not a huge fan of “oh hey there’s this cool thing that Celestia is off doing in an interesting part of the world, but here a celebrity VA and a character that totally still is a fandom favorite, right” episode schtick though.
I saw a few people making that argument. And fair point about it basically being a new location anyway.
Indeed. I don’t remember seeing this either.-
@ImRaidAccount
Oh, well then I’m out.

episode 20 Viva Las Pegasus.
