I don’t think that’s what they were doing. I think the fandom just overeacted, and caused this to become what it is.

All joke aside,controversy for the sake of controversy hurt a franchise more than it promote it.Sure,you made your brand recognized on the Internet but for the wrong reason

One time, vacationing in New York, my family and I found “Restaurant” in Manhattan. I couldn’t go in because Dad wanted to see the cathedral down the road. Later, at home, a set-up shot in one of the episodes was pointed at that cathedral before being angled towards “Restaurant”, reaffirming that that was the location I saw in life. Of course, I’m assuming it does look different inside and that the set was shot in a studio.
 
Similarly, I’ve been told How I Met Your Mother was shot in LA, only using stock footage of the New York skyline in its set-up shots. :j

Not so much anger inducing, as it is lazy writing levels of frustrating that you are forcibly “shipped” together. Despite the fact that everytime the movie attempts to force you two together, the subplot gets immediately dropped, forgotten and never addressed again until the next film where the cycle begins anew.
 
One wonders why they even bother to use that trope at all if they never eleborate on it, but then again lazy script writing and over reliance on cliches is EqG’s modus operandi.
