Dunno how that was a Rule #0 violation when I wasn’t insulting anyone (except arguably myself), but let me try again:
@Helios the Dragon
You’re right, I’m wrong, I’m sorry and will henceforth just shut up.
@Helios the Dragon
I’m just gonna stop this before it can go anywhere
“Flutter justice warriors” (FJW)
I thought it was a good episode.
me too
I don’t mind it when rainbow’s ego get’s knocked down a peg
I loved it.
I didn’t dislike it. It was alright.
I thought it was great.
>If some creture did jump her in the everfree, she could fight back.
Then why was she cowering at the start of the episode when she thought a creature was about to jump her in the Everfree? She clearly thought she was in some danger, or she wouldn’t have seemed so scared.
>On the other hoof, say that a prank is lazy, telling the prankser to up her game, don’t you think that would lead to more pranking?
This, I think, was the writers trying to show how words can be fickle.
On one hand, you’re right, her friends did say things like how her “joke was lazy”, and how her use of a whoopie cushion was “like a joke shortcut”. And with just that in mind, it’s easy to see how RD decided to go and pull a bunch of pranks to try and show she was willing to do the work. This appealed heavily to her competitive nature (especially considering AJ and Rarity were the ones saying most of this).
On the other hand, her friends also highlighted that jokes that only make the prankster laugh weren’t very good jokes. Sending that message to RD was their primary goal, and pretty much anything they said could be seen as a means toward that. (For instance, AJ thought RD’s joke on FS was “lazy” because it was easier to scare a pony who is easily scared and laugh then it would’ve been to create a joke that would’ve made both of them laugh.)
So we could blame RD for letting her competitive nature sweep away all the nuances of what her friends were trying to say, or we could blame her friends for not realizing the minute they start using words like “lazy” and “shortcut” RD would immediately focus in on that. They’re two sides of the same coin. Not sure it makes sense to assign blame in a situation with a miscommunication made in good faith.
>…she couldn’t fight back becaise they were her friends.
>…like if rainbow were to fight back, it would be tens of ponies, hundreds maybe. And it would be entirely their fault.
Pick one position or the other. You can’t argue from the position of two completely conflicting ideas on how dangerous RD could’ve been.
>Even then, her terror wasn’t even for herself, like fluttershies was. It was for them. And they were useing that against her. Her love for her friends.
Whether it is worse to make someone worry for their friends or for them self seems kinda like an unanswerable question. Some might think one way, and others another. I doubt either can be show to be right or wrong.
>The worst part, though, is that comedy wasn’t their purpose.
RD’s comedy was almost completely for her own amusement. Her friends’ prank was intended to show her how hurtful pranks could be, and in doing so preventing her from hurting others without realizing. I don’t really see how the former is better than the latter.
(Although I can see that RD didn’t seem to be trying to be malicious, she probably just didn’t realize she was being mean. On the other hand her friends knew exactly what they were doing. Perhaps RD’s actions were less intentional than her friends, but I’m not sure that that really makes her decisions better…)
Edit: Looks like I’m late to the party. XD I guess I should’ve taken a little less time to respond.
Edited because: lol I'm slow, also used "whistful" incorrectly.
here here
If someone isn’t targeting their pranks only on people they know enjoy them, then said pranks are literally them just being a selfish asshole. Rainbow likely ruined Cranky’s whole day, and could easily have notably injured Mr. Cake and Big Mac, just for her own enjoyment.
“Fear-mongering” with the intent to help everyone involved is far more justified than what Rainbow was doing for most of the episode, regardless of the labels they have.
Edited
no but she is VERY timid, those were LIFE OR DEATH situations
and they were insinces where her FRIENDS were in danger
YOU forget, that for people who are introverted like fluttershy, it’s not that simple, she has the physical capability but she lacks the mental prowess to do so on a consistent basis, she can’t even perform in front of a crowd yet. and MANY people have the same struggler, flutershy haters bash her for being a “coward” out of hateful and often wilful ignorance of her mental state
she’s still to timid to even go out on nightmare night as far as season FIVE
rainbow dash should know this
deliberately SCARING fluttershy isn’t just mean-spirited, it borders PERILOUSLY close to downright sadistic BULLYING
On the other hoof, say that a prank is lazy, telling the prankser to up her game, don’t you think that would lead to more pranking? And rds pranks all had comedy as their prime intent. At that point, the way to make her scale it down would be to tell her she proved them wrong, that she’s not lazy.
Instead, they went bigger than she ever did, lower than she ever did. In that situation, she couldn’t fight back becaise they were her friends. Even then, her terror wasn’t even for herself, like fluttershies was. It was for them. And they were useing that against her. Her love for her friends.
The worst part, though, is that comedy wasn’t their purpose. If al this zombie was atleast for comedy, than they’d have a better case. It would still be bad, but it would be better. Instead, the primary reason was to change her. That makes it no longer a prank. That just makes it fear mongering.
She was not doing any harm, if they were to do something, it should be something smaller, like setting up a prank war between her and pinkie. If someone were harmed during one of dashies pranks, that woukd be just one pony. If someone where harmed during that, like if rainbow were to fight back, it would be tens of ponies, hundreds maybe. And it would be entirely their fault.
Quit taking that so seriously.
Try re-watching the cold open.
When did they do that?
@Helios the Dragon
BP’s got a point
What, we’re supposed to approve of someone mocking and insulting the terror-stricken victim of their prank?
No, I’m acknowledging how easily offended they get when it does happen.
If they get that mad over a prank, imagine if she DID stab her.
did somepony say someponie’s starting shit?!
