To a degree. I like the concept. But my god was it poorly executed. Poor characterization for the sake of the plot without a doubt.
She is a teenager. She’s not even an adult yet. Immaturity is still a factor here. But yes, I would seriously not be happy with the nature of some of these pranks. The skunk prank, AJ’s prank and Mr. Cake’s prank were cruel. At the same time I feel RD would never go that far (maybe with AJ) and also I feel she would certainly stop if she was seriously asked (Pinkie’s request to stop was awful in the episode, almost as bad as RD not saying that zombie prank was amazing).
I honestly feel this is less RD and more bad writing (I mean we’ve had Pinkie, a pony that wouldn’t even pull a water squirt prank on Fluttershy completely and repetitively harass her to tears in Filli Vanilli. And Pinkie didn’t get any comeuppance besides some glares and rarity bonking her with a newspaper…)
I’ll agree, that while I don’t see RD being this bad, if she was this wouldn’t stand.
Again, RD’s young. For the same reason Trixie, Sunset and Starlight didn’t get dungeon time, RD wouldn’t (she did deserve a punishment and a better lesson than what she got, but there you go.)
There’s loyalty with it’s banter, as you’ve described with your friend. That’s honestly acceptable. And then there’s tactless, insensitive vandals like RD who selfishly pursue something for personal gain, never think of the consequences, end up hurting others in the process, and somehow always get away with a tap on the wrist.
“No one pays attention to me! I’m gonna be a vigilante to get that attention, and if I get shown up, I’ll blow up a dam!”
“Who will pay attention to me if my tortoise is gone (excluding my 6 best friends and literally half of Ponyville?) I’d better stop Winter at everyone else’s inconvenience because otherwise I’ll be sad, to hell with the potential for the whole of Cloudsdale being in ruins afterwards.”
“Ponies are telling me they don’t like my pranks? Pft, I’ll just do bigger versions of the things they don’t like, and more frequently because I can’t accept when I’m wrong until it blows up in my face and almost hurts someone.”
See that’s when, to me, it doesn’t matter how freaking loyal you are; you need to be taught a lesson. Or at least be made to pay for damages in some way. Where’s our episode where RD spends her time in a dungeon reflecting on the consequences of her actions, or picking up litter in a monochrome onesie with a ball and chain on her leg? That’s what I want to see.
I don’t see any reason things would “start”. You’re not being rude nor am I. Just a harmless debate :)
You’re comparing dogs to humans. Granted, I’m comparing these ponies to humans. The difference here is the ponies here the same cognition as humans, dog’s do not. As such, I value a human’s loyalty more so than a dog’s loyalty. A friend can be a prankster/pain-in-the-ass, but be loyal when things get serious. I have a friend like this, we banter, he likes calling me names and jokingly insulting me, but when I was at a bar and my ex’s new b/f tried to fight me, that pain-in-the-ass friend told that guy if he ever gave me trouble again he’d be drinking his meals through a straw and he’d be doing jailtime (and he meant it)(and no, he’s never been to jail).
That’s how I and the Mane 6 likely view RD.
I can totally see some who wouldn’t hang out with a loyal guy like that because they wouldn’t want to put up with that, but the Mane 6 (or the writers for the show) are obviously the type to look past the flaws.
Without the intention to start anything, but out of a trifling curiosity to enquire, did it not occur that loyalty, and the quality of “not-being-a-pain-in-the-ass” can coincide? That’s what we have dogs for.
Further more, you may be able to look past what can only be a fortunes worth of collective property (and presumably psychological) damage, and a seeming inability to learn from one’s mistakes; but others cannot, and for good reason, imho.
Because if you can look passed the flaws you’ve got a loyal friend. I’d rather a loyal friend that’s a pain in the ass more than a friend who isn’t a pain in the ass, but will sell you out or won’t come through when you really need them.
Actually, it’s probably always been a fetish, it’s just the internet has made you aware of how many people actually have said fetish lol.
Edited
I remember when all the cartoon did that and not one bated an eye.
Today, thanks to the internet, is a fucking fetish and will cringed anybody that doesn’t have the mentioned fetish.
MLP has made a fart joke.
