It did seem suspect considering she’s a cyberpunk tank, albeit WWII cyberpunk. However, I’ve seen tons of futuristic scifi use antiair artillery. :\

Fun facts :
  • The deadly German “8.8cm” gun, used on Tiger tanks, was originally an anti-aircraft gun.
  • Tank vs Plane data from WWII are notorious bullshit. On some theaters the R.A.F claimed to have destroyed more tanks than what the German ever had in the region.

The massive overestimation in “number of tanks killed by planes” in WWII is due to several factors :
  • They are mostly based on whatever the pilot wanted to claim in his report.
  • More or less every vehicle that was not clearly something else was counted as a tank.
(Lack of proper visibility / time to examine your target / training to identify enemy weaponry is also responsible for the very inflated number of “Tiger tank” destroyed by allied forces : most of those were cheaper and smaller stuff)
  • No real way for a pilot to “confirm the kill” unless he was willing to take considerable risk.
(This is very problematic because tanks are designed to take an absurd amount of punishment, so even a perfect hit has no guarantee to do actual damage.)
  • Traveling tanks carry their extra fuel in external reservoir, resulting in a nice firework if you hit them. Except the tank itself doesn’t really care … outside of “fuck, we are out of gas now”.
