The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Personally, I think everyone responds differently. I can relate in some way to your experience. My father passed away when I was 11 from brain cancer, and everyone expected me to break down. From that point on it was constant trips to the school counselor and unending reminders that “yeah, your dad is dead. So sorry about that.”

Maybe it was because he got cancer when I was so young and I never got to meet that “real” him, but I just accepted his death. There was nothing to be done about it. I was raised a Christian to believe that once people die, they are set free from the pain and suffering of this world. Losing him was sad, yes, but why mourn for someone who is finally at peace? It just didn’t seem right to me. He was a good husband, a good father, and he passed on.

Well, anyway, that’s my two cents. Didn’t expect to be this involved in the comments section of a pony picture today. Oh well!

To me, Death is death. People die. They cease existing.

Everyone around me is concerned for my mental health because when family members die, I don’t behave how they expect me to behave.

Even when my dad passed away from 3rd degree burns and infection I just… Didn’t feel anything, I could only cry when other people were crying around me. I’m scared I might be a psychopath. Or at least a sociopath.

Morbid curiosity. Death is perhaps as integral to life as life itself. It gives us a limited time to accomplish all that we wish to, so that we are driven to accomplish and not put it off forever.

We cannot know what it is like to actually die until we do. It is half of existence that we know nothing about, if viewing life as “alive or not.” But, view it in terms of raw time, we live but fleeting moments in the fourteen billion years of this universe, perhaps even longer if there was time before the big bang.

So, it is natural to be curious about what is inevitably our own fate, and perhaps one of the more pleasant ways to view it, is to imagine it as an eternal rest, for it is rest from all of life’s burdens that we all seek. Though it is sought in other ways, there is no denying that death is, indeed, an eternal rest from this life.
