If we were to go by JRPG fantasy logic as headcanon here. Then that means that things evaporate as they die in their world. Whatever magic they harboured would be released into the environment. It would be fitting if those shooting stars were souls of the long passed. I also can imagine dealing with the afterlife would be another job of Luna’s. She’d be the one who’d commune with departed souls as she would interact with those in their dreams. She should be the one who’d “sends” Ponies into their afterlives as they die.
