Eh, I know, but it’s an easy joke, since we see them do NOTHING!
When someone makes a post like yours, particularly BPs, 99 times out of 100, they have negative intents. And, as I pointed out, it’s hard to read your first comment without seeing it as just insulting. That’s why everyone here treated you like a bad person.
I hope you’re new to Derpibooru, because this seems to happen a lot when people carelessly post their thoughts. I’ve seen at least a hundred images that I wanted to hate on, but decided to keep my mouth shut because, as I said, I don’t like getting involved in drama. Even yesterday, I commented on a small fact about continuity, and someone treated it as if I was attacking certain people. People here will start drama at the drop of a hat, so I’ve trained myself to assume the worst.
Also, the last episode’s lesson is one worth taking to heart. It will save you a lot of pain in the future, speaking from experience. It’s not about “hurting someone’s feelings,” it’s about “not getting on the bad side the wrong people.” Sometimes they’ll treat what you said as a personal attack, even if it wasn’t your intent, simply because you couldn’t find the right words. Sometimes they’ll say “screw it” and get rid of you because you’re more popular than them, even if it hurts their business. Again, speaking from (real life) experience.
Finally, several of your comments involve you calling Kilala’s reasons “poor excuses.” It’s hard for me to read that and feel like you’re a fan of hers. I feel like a lot of people watch her for her character development, not character design, even if some of her fans (like me) do like them. Since it feels like you just showed up to fling around insults (again, something a lot of BPs do) rather than appreciate the image itself, it’s hard for most people to treat it as a “simple discussion.” About half of the content of your comments contain things BP trolls do, so I started acting like you were a troll. Again, because I trained myself to look for those kinds of things involving BPs.
And I hope you’re starting to understand the main cause of my treatment; Seeing a person with their own account say that? “They’re sharing their opinion, and are open to discussion (unless they have a duck badge).” Seeing a BP say that? “They’re trying to start something, and I’m only testing the waters at worst.” If you want people to treat your opinions as opinions, even as abrasive as yours are, get an account. Once you have an account, it will be more of “Oh, that how they are,” as opposed to “BP must be trying to start something!”
Take my comment as you will, I’m not likely to say anything more on the subject.
I’m not one of those bronies who takes to heart each message an episode has. I’m not going to be silent or censor my thoughts or feelings just because I might disagree or hurt someone’s feelings.
You’re wrong, actually. I do like some of Kilala’s stuff. Her recent art is very good.
I was never insulting Kilala’s abilities. I believe she’s afraid of changing her designs and losing her fans. And as I stated before, even Kilala mentioned that Starburst’s design was a blatant copy-paste.
And I was stating fact. Ponies do have fluid color palettes that go nicely together, usually with matching eye colors. Starburst doesn’t have that. Whether you like her palette or not is an opinion.
I posted my thoughts, and someone replied. So I replied back. It was a discussion, if you can believe it or not. I was never angry or replying out of spite. I believe you’re taking this a bit too seriously.
Look, I’m trying to avoid drama. And Blissey has a point. You can’t state your opinions as fact. There are always going to be things you don’t like, even though everyone else does. Didn’t you watch the last episode? That was the whole point of it.
I like Kilala’s stuff. You don’t. I get that. But I don’t go around calling other people’s stuff bad. And if you want to say you aren’t insulting her:
@Background Pony #2A30
Recognize that? It’s your first comment. And there’s no way you can objectively say it’s not insulting. So just do everyone, especially yourself, a favor, and stop trying to argue a losing point.
I’m sorry if I came off as aggressive, but I recently learned that being as nice as possible won’t always work. And this is one of those times.
Objectively, none of her colors match up. Like how Flash has blue eyes and a blue mane, and Twilight has purple eyes and a purple streak. Each pony has matching colors, or their colors go well with one another.
But her palette is just all over the place. If her eyes were blue, the palette would be so much better.
>opinions as facts
I like her color palette, myself
Edited
Resemblance? Yes. But that doesn’t mean you should throw together traits for no rhyme or reason. Ponies have palettes that are nice to look at. Starburst doesn’t.
And just because you’re supposed to look like your parents doesn’t mean your designs should be simple meshes. You get traits from your grandparents and ancestors. Taking one trait from one parent and another trait from the other is just lazy.
Golden Delicious is also a literal mesh, but is a bit better. As is Cotton Candy.
Using the excuse that other people are less creative isn’t a good one.
And yes, I did say that other people are way worse, if you read my post until the end. Some people just… have the worst designs. Ever seen iPandacakes’ stuff? She makes Kilala’s designs look like the Mona Lisa.
She also is insanely popular, even though she does very little of her own original art. She mostly uses bases and doesn’t use them very well, in my opinion.
No.
Just that one guard…
Then again, the rest haven’t shown any value either way.
A: I look like a fat version of my dad and a shorter version of my brother. Resemblance to your parents is normal, even for ponies (Look at any of the M6’s parents except Pinkie’s. It’s not always one-to-one like Star, but it’s there).
B: Most of Kilala’s characters are better than Star’s about the “Copy Paste” thing. I mostly remember the “Thrown together” statement being about the NextNextgen, or her OC’s children.
C: Kilala has stated that she’s seen people less creative by copying her designs and even her descriptions. It could always be worse. Try to remember that.
My anonymity has no effect on my criticism. It is still valid.
@Poptard
She wasn’t the first, Clarity was, but I get what you mean. That’s when Kilala’s popularity sky-rocketted. I believe the only reason people liked Starburst was because her design was simple, and easy to draw. It made them say, “ Oh, if she can get popular with designs like these, so can I!” (And a few of them have)
Also, a lot of her fans are kids. They wouldn’t know a good color palette if their sight depended on it.
Even Kilala admitted she threw together the design. But that’s a pretty poor excuse. In all honesty, I think she’s scared she will lose fans if she drastically changes her designs.
All of her designs, in exception for her dragon hybrids (but even those are losing their flare), are very passé and subpar. Easy jumbles of parents traits with predictable color palettes and themes.
And the excuse “oh but a lot of fan kids are like that!” is just that, an excuse. If you can put in the effort, you can make a good an original design.
God, the worst designs are the 2nd gen. Especially Idie and the dragon-bat pony hybrids.
But Kilala isn’t the worst. God, there is someone so much worse in terms of art and design.
Funnily enough, Starburst was one of the earliest OCs that got popular, and many of the spinoffs or imitations were somewhat inspired by her. She was certainly unique and stylish when she came out, but just by sheer saturation she now looks standard. It’s like Call of Duty 4 versus whatever the hell we have now coming out in terms of creativity.
Says the critic who’s just a background pony.
I could go into Photoshop, take parts of her parents, slap them on, and get Starburst without even trying.
I’ve seen FlashLight kids with actual effort put into them. Like Faith-Wolff’s flashlight kid.
I know Kilala97 is a good artist, I mean, look at her hybrid designs. But the rest of them are just so sub-par.
you mean like 90% of offspring ocs
Not to mention her design is just a copy paste of her parent’s parts.
