@furrypony @mathprofbrony The formula relates to “squaring the square”: place squares of integer length into a square of integer length. If the squares to be packed run from 1 to n, the square size is then given by the formula, which is only an integer for the two solutions depicted. With regards to actually packing the squares, the first one is trivial and the second one is impossible.
