Uhh, well, I’m not sure exactly how much you want me to elaborate.
 
Mercury is an alchemist, though she’s good at her craft, she can get overconfident in her abilities or get a little experimental (not in the mad scientist kind of way) and this can often result in a variety of shenanigans.  
I like to think she lives in Ponyville, not because the main cast is there, but because it seems to be a genuinely nice town and I know personally, I’d prefer a nice small town rather than a big city. For the sake of story purposes, she can live in other towns though, this can vary from story to story.
 
Since I’ve commissioned so many bad things happening to her, a lot of people have taken to asking how she keeps coming back from it or if she remembers the other bad things happening. I’ve decided if an explanation is absolutely necessary, then each one is the result of the timeline splitting. The Prime or Alpha version of Mercury is safe and sound and will be so for the rest of her life. The timeline splits are where all the bad things happen. The one exception being if Mercury herself is in a different time period, then that’s an alternate reality all together.
