Actually, there’s a world of difference. Sunset had a plan to invade Equestria. Midnight wanted to take all of the magic she could find. Invading Equestria would’ve been a means to an end. Also, Midnight came to be after the magic took hold of Sci-Twi, and Sci-Twi wasn’t evil before then. Sunset, on the other hand, was evil before she became Sunset Satan.
Especially in real life. I suppose the key is to never let anyone intimidate you into doing something you are not ready for or don’t want to do.

Which Cinch couldn’t have used had Twilight not built the magic-stealing device in order to understand it. This isn’t me blaming Twilight so much as pointing out that Cinch wouldn’t have been able to manipulate her into opening the device.
I can’t blame Twilight for trying to understand the world and the magic. It’s just that assholes would manipulate people like her into doing what happened in the movie.
