Sunset and Starlight both seemed to have taken Advanced Artifact theory 101 as well, along with possessing knowledge that even Twilight didn’t seem to know existed. But I’m really not in much of a position or mood as I was yesterday to form a good conversation so it’s probably best for me not to go into it.
@ChuymaruZ
Really! Reminds me of that Superman vs Goku picture xD
what fandom think:
deadly enemies
reality:
besties forever
Sunset doesn’t have any trouble moving as a pony, it seems. Despite being in the EQG world for years, she came back one night to steal the crown (How did she know it was there…?), and within minutes was being chased. She wasn’t in the least clumsy and could teleport without trouble. So…there is no reason to doubt her ability as one.
As for the time frame, it’s most fun to have these at the current one, where they have both demonstrated their power most. Starlight has a LOT of ability shown in a small space of time, but Sunset’s feats are impressive when trying to gauge magical prowess and ability.
EDIT: Wait, Sunset did trip over Spike, so she was a LITTLE clumsy…just saying so it doesn’t have to be said.
Edited because: Revelation of Clumsiness
Not sure if I agree with that. Starlight does have a lot of knowledge. Plus she learned from Sunburst who arguably knows more about magic than Twilight, just lacks the ability to cast it.
I think most people have come to that conclusion already.
As for Glimmer, one neat thing that an anon from /mlp/ pointed out that I didn’t realize until then was that Starlight manages to parallel Twilight in magical combat, not because of magical power or knowledge, but because she was a better fighter; you know a weak but skilled fighter stalemating a strong but unskilled fighter.
Like for example this right here in S05E01:
So, CIVIL WAR: Memeless edition!
Pfft! I don’t care much for Ravioli anyway. >:)
Edited
No ravioli for you.
@Mrmildock
Screw that!! ANNIHILATE HER, SUNSET!!
Indeed! I’m a big fan of Glimmyglam personally, but I get that other people aren’t. I’d like to think we can all get along though and enjoy our waifus together :D
Oh, I’ll have to go look for that. That sounds interesting
The nice thing about MLP is that there is no shortage of waifus! I’ll take adorable Sunset over Starlight, personally.
I think there is a very interesting picture on derpibooru with the Mane 6 meeting the Humane 5 in pony form…
Ah, good points. I guess always assumed it was something that required practice to do to the degree of flight Starlight was showing. I suppose then it’d just come down to focus and fortitude then when doing it over long periods of time but not entirely impossible for a well practiced mage. There’s probably not much we could really do beyond speculate since they’re both very impressive and powerful unicorns who are clearly top arch mages || And great waifus! :D ||
I actually do kinda hope that there’s a crossover between the two worlds. I’m pretty sure Sunset would know Twi has a student since she appeared again at the end of Friendship games. It’d be interesting seeing 2 sets of ponies all confusing each other for their own versions.
And since the magic in FG seemed to be breaking down dimensional barriers it might very well happen
I’m not arguing with you on the point of Starlight self-teleporting, I’m sure she will do it long before this season is done. I’m simply saying she hasn’t yet. MANY ponies can teleport, now. All the princess’ (Including Flurry Heart), Sunset, likely Starlight, and another failed student of Celestia’s, Radiant Hope.
Yes, during an annual special comic I believe, we got to see Celestia look on at the tower where her students conduct tests and she saw a large tree/vine jutting out from it, if I recall correctly. It was similar in shot to when Celestia noticed Twilight’s power surge when she was about to get her cutie mark.
Sunset was given a plant to grow, and she made it grow from next to nothing into a towering plant. Sunset was full grown and had her cutie mark, so there was no power fluctuation here. Twilight couldn’t do much to a flower for a couple of seconds when she was given a similar task.
From this, we can deduce Sunset is actually far more powerful than Twilight, or at least was compared to Twilight in her unicorn self. Now, it’s a little more…complicated. Though if Starlight could keep up with her as a princess, I don’t see why Sunset couldn’t.
@Josh103
I don’t recall that, but it doesn’t surprise me. When was this in the comics? The same annual special?
I would contest her effectiveness, though. The sirens can’t control ponies as they are magical. In Equestria, they had to enthrall them in their music, but they couldn’t outright mind control them like they could with the humans. Sunset didn’t try her mind control on the Humane 5 and Twilight, but I suspect them having magic would make them immune, or at least resilient.
If the comics are to be believed, Sunset’s spells that she used in her demon form are actually spells she knew on her own. So she could mind control ponies, presumably.
Yeah, my main point was that it would seem very odd to not be able to teleport yourself, but only teleport others. Since she edited Starswirl’s spell, she’s clearly displayed herself as a top archmage. And so has Sunset, I’m sure they’d both have all the basics down.
When did Sunset do an Age spell? Was that in the comics? I only vaguely remember those. I do remember her growing the plant and doing a few other things in her origin comic but I might be missing some of the more minor details.
And you’re right, I totally forgot about the baby cakes lol
As I said, she likely can, but she hasn’t done it yet.
Sunset did an age spell with incredible results with little to no effort, same with her teleportation. I think it’s safe to assume anything Twilight could do pre-princesshood, Sunset could do and more. The extent of her power is hard to gauge, however, given how little pony form magic she has shown, but that age spell is actually ridiculously impressive given how much weight was given to their difficulty in Magic Duel.
Other than looking difficult from the outside, no unicorn has seemed to actually struggle with self levitation. Now, the ones attempting it are either power fluctuating foals or the epitome of the unicorn race, so it’s understandable. After all, Twilight lifted an Ursa Minor in the 6th episode, a beast far heavier than herself. But for the case of Sunset, Twilight and Starlight…self levitation seems to be as easy (easier, in fact) as self teleportation.
The wings are unlikely, and wouldn’t be princess wings if they were there. They would likely be some form of fiery wings that would conjure themselves when needed, if at all being present.
The actual usefulness of wings is debatable considering how little using wings over self-levitation helped Twilight in the Season 6 finale against Starlight.
I’m sure Starlight can teleport. It’d be silly to assume otherwise.
I know Twi has self levitated herself a little bit, but I guess I’ve always just assumed that self levitation is a much harder task. It’s kinda like lifting yourself with yourself, and requires a lot more focus. I think just assuming that one is stronger than the other is presuming a bit much. Idk if you’ve ever done D&D or any fantasy RPGs but magic usually has many different schools of focus. Since Starlight is an Eastern Unicorn I imagine their spellset might be slightly different than Sunset’s who studied under Celestia and thus her loadout would be similar to Twi’s.
Eh, Idk about that honestly, I think it’s a bit presumptious to just assume she could do it better than Twi, or have wings in pony form now. || she might, but the magic would be of a different nature ||
Also, if we’re taking the comics into consideration, Sunset could make a plant grow into a huge tree/vine as a sort of test from Celestia that isn’t unlike an age spell Twilight failed to perform on another plant to a much smaller degree with far more effort.
Also, Sunset can teleport, which Starlight can likely do, but hasn’t shown the ability to do so yet, only teleport other things.
Self-Levitation is something Twilight did back in the Season 3 opener, albeit for a very short time, though it is far from unprecedented. Sunset could very likely do the same with the same or less effort.
Also, Sunset’s pony form may have a magical set of wings attached to it now, though it’s not proven, only speculated
I think the reason taht Starlight is so powerful, just a personal theory, is because she knew Sunburst who looked into a ton of obscure books plus had a natural affinity for magic and so Starlight has a lot of obscure rare spells in her repertoire and the power/ knowledge to use them. She probably also buried herself in those books after Sunburst left. Sunset was also Celestia’s prodigy though and possesses her own fair share of arcane knowledge. If the comics and EQG are anything to go by she definitely had her own selection of spells. I have no doubt Sunset would have at least cloud walking memorized, but personally I’d like to think she’d have her own tricks up her sleeve than just giving her Starlight’s self telekinesis.
Mage fights are my favorite!
Eh, Sunset is a also a magical prodigy, she might very well have the cloud walking spell memorized… Hell… If Twilight can have some random transmogrification spell memorized just in case she needs to turn her friends into the form of something else she has on hoof, I don’t see why Sunset can’t have memorized something a tad more practical.
Plus like… she knows telekinesis and stuff.
it’s not that fun if one of them is stuck on the ground
…Heri-of-rick drawing ponies with reasonably sized ears.
Also that might be a fun fight to watch. I don’t know if Sunset would try to fight Starlight forever, but I could see her going back a few more rounds than Twilight did.
