I don’t see any slapstick here. Clearly Rainbow Dash secretly knew that things were going to be hard on her adventure and was sneakily trying to take Spike with her so he could help her with ‘stress relief’. A compliment, really. Pinkie was in on it and tried to help in her own crazy, barely-contained or thoughtful way.
 
I doubt Spike even minds. After everything he’s ever been through he could probably use some ‘stress relief’ himself.

It might be funny if it was a character who’d shown a particular attraction to spike, but honestly, no one on the show has really given a hoot about him. Heck, even he only showed real affection towards rarity and it hasn’t exactly been reciprocated.
 
As things are now, this joke would only be funny with spike accidentally packing rarity in HIS luggage.

Yes, I know it’s slapstick, but I don’t find it funny when it happens to a character who’s regularly abused and neglected on a show. Plus stuffing Spike into a suitcase for no good reason seemed forced to me.

I don’t know. Pinkie seemed to be the only one who cottoned on to what Dash was up to, considering the way she helped out. And hiding anything from Pinkie Pie is not a task for the faint of heart.
