The problem is that eg sunset is not the same character as the one we have now. She wouldn’t have Sunset’s expertise, experience with the girls and friendship. We know from the ending of Friendship Games that both counterparts can coexist in the same universe when both twilights met.  
There’s no reason for EG sunset ro take pony sunset place.

Chances are the next EG movie is also going to be the last, so if they don’t have Sunset returning and reconciling with Celestia in any way, it’ll be a huge waste of her story arc. Because it’s not over yet.
 
But we all know Legend of Everfree is going to be something like “Sci-Twi ponies up at the end and saves the day / summer camp”, which kind of sucks because with this series they actually moved away from having Twilight be the main character, only to then introduce another one.

Well they could but why should they? They have actually started moving away from FiM with the addition of SciTwi, which means they don’t need pony twilight anymore, the next movie is set outside the school and if Gloriosa is a magic lady then they might be shifting away from Equestrian magic too. To me it looks like they’re trying to make EG less dependent from the show. So adding in characters from FiM or Equestria is not the way to go for that.  
After all they’re two separate franchises, that’s why you won’t see Sunset on the show because she’s not part of the story and there’s no reason to waste an episode on a character that’s not native to FiM.

The next movie is set outside the school and the portal

Sunset won’t ever be part of the show, because that’d admit in universe that Equestria Girls is actually canon.
 
However, there’s nothing stopping them from having her visit Equestria in the next EG movie, which I hope actually happens. I want her to actually meet the rest of the pony Mane Six and Starlight.

tecnicamente esto es imposible porque hasbro no tiene intenciones de que sunset se vuelva una mane ya que el grupo de twilight esta completo con starlight glimmer y la aparicion de nuevo de trixie lulamoon por lo que se ve hasbro hasta el momento a decidido que sunset se quede en el mundo humano como lider de las rainbooms y de las shadowbolts no hay planes de que sunset se una al grupo de twilight porque sunset ya tiene a su grupo lo unico que queda seria ir de visita a equestria en cuando
