Thing about being a pokemon trainer is that you’ve gotta go find innocent critters just going about their lives, have your critter beat the crap out of it, and then, once it’s been pounded into an immobile twitching heap, put it in a tiny little ball. Then it obeys you forever, like it’s brainwashed - the better to participate in a lifetime of similar fighting, either to expand your captor’s slave army or for the amusement of the crowds.
 
I’m pretty sure Flutters isn’t gonna be up for that.
 
Really, even as a little kid watching it for the first time, that was my first thought. “BEATING UP INNOCENT CREATURES TO CAPTURE THEM AND FORCE THEM TO FIGHT? These are the GOOD GUYS?!?!” It struck me as terribly screwed up. The fact that they seem okay with it made it worse, not better: it fought so hard to avoid capture but is okay now? It was obvious that the balls rewrote their minds. I felt so sad for those creatures that had so little of themselves left that apparently you had to say “dodge it!” when an attack comes in because its mind is so gone that it would just stand there with a giant fireball coming at it because you didn’t order it to do otherwise.
 
Pokemon is fun… but let’s face it. It’s soooo fucked up.
