It’s called limited edition collectibles illogically sought by nerds who scoure eBay for one thousand dollar copies five days after release. XD
They should have paired him with Fluttershy like WeLovefine did with their figurine. This way not only Discord fans would buy it, but also fluttershy fans and fluttercord shippers.
In that case, we must buy it so that doesn’t happen. As MLP fans, it’s a must to have a Discord figurine
It’s a shame, because if it doesn’t sell well, we can forget about any future toyline with him.
Giving this figure an action feature would probably make it cost more than the $20 this series goes for.
Children of the target age range will likely be content to pick it up and shake it and try to copy his voice. It’s not like any of the other toys in this franchise are highly articulated.
Of course, most of them have monster lobster claws or cannons that shoot death discs but eh.
Kids won’t know what to do with it, if it can’t do anything beside laying on the shelf. They could at least make it into an action figure with movable arms.
Only brony collectors will be interested in it.
What I’m saying is that you can only reuse the exact same mold for the exact same part, not for its mirror image, which requires another mold, even if it’s a mirror image.
Every Hasbro figure starts with a hand-made prototype (if not several) and, once perfected, all of its unique parts are then used to cast molds – it doesn’t really matter if the prototype is symmetrical or not, as one limb and its mirror image still require two molds.
Many parts are, not all.
Are you implying that a mold can reverse itself to fit the other side? They still have to make another mold for the reversed mirror image of the “same” part.
Here’s the difference between Discord and pretty much every other character: They’re symmetrical, he’s not. They can cast Spikezilla parts from the same mold twice, Discord would need separate molds for each side, assuming they’re not making something articulated.
For something articulated, each of his limbs would probably need to be cast from different molds, and then they’d need to find a way to put it on his body. If Hasbro found a way to do that without severely limiting his articulation, making it look awkward, or making the final product large and costly, I will gladly fork over my money.
It would be much less expensive than Giant Spikezilla throwing machine.
I’ll be honest and say don’t hold your breath. Discord wasn’t designed to be turned into a mass produced toy. He’s probably expensive and complicated to mold; I’m shocked we got this.
Well, then i hope that he will get another toy later this year.
I guess that it will come with the Twilight/Changeling, Big Spike, and Knight Spike/Chrysalis ones.
“Cutie Kapowie,” huh? Where’s that one? It sounds odd. Given when they trademarked it, almost immediately after the rush of positive reception after Toy Fair, it seems more likely.
@Lucky Shot
Looking forward to it regardless.
Hasbro uses the “ongoing animated series” trademark for pretty much everything, regardless of whether or not they have any intention of an animated series.
Guardians of Harmony was announced from the get-go as a spinoff action toyline to appeal equally to boys and girls, and each toy is accompanied by matching IDW comics.
Not a full sized comic, no. Smaller ones, maybe. It’s very likely they will only be available with the larger story packs and not the smaller individual figures.
Companies will often trademark things and never act upon them. They’ve done it before with a trademark called “Cutie Kapowie” that went nowhere. If they were planning something animated all along, it would have been announced with the toys. At most, they’ll sit on it and greenlight a series/special proper if the toys prove enough of a success.
I guess these are prototype packages, or they come with a download QR code or something. More than a few don’t have the space for a comic. And there’s a comic as well as some sort of animation presumably, given the trademarks.

The toys are supposed to come packaged with comics with a related storyline, I believe.
No. Inspired by some stuff in FiM but supposedly a part of something else. A “what if,” the toy designer said.
Was Chrysalis and Spike in dragon form with armor also a fan series?
