Throw Starlight into the Mirror Pool and we can have infinite Twilights on infinite worlds.
I think it’s more a 5th twilight by now.
cough Starlight cough
all hail big jim, king of retraction!
damn he is worst than seth macfarlane
If you’re referring to me then all I’m doing is refuting @LanceOmikron in his assertion that the events of the movies are IMPOSSIBLE by bringing forth ways which prove that it very well could be possible.
As for the image in question:
ouch
*ollies outie*
And are you seriously gonna use background pony clones present within a form of official media to attempt to prove otherwise? That’s like trying to use Twilight’s flashback in Cutie Mark Chronicles to prove that Amending Fences is non-canon, for a lack of better examples.
I still find that 100 moons thing sketchy. Wouldn’t be the first time that the Apple family has messed with Equestrian time. In season 1 (Winter Wrap-Up), Twilight had mentioned that Ponyville had existed for hundreds of years, but later it turns out that Ponyville was founded within Granny Smith’s lifetime. Is Granny Smith over 200?
Man, if only the writers of EqG1 hadn’t completely neglected to explain how Sunset formulated her plan. This confusion could have been so easily avoided.
But that’s assuming that each season covers the same amount of time
It doesn’t take away from the fact that 100 moons happened between the start of the series and AFR
It also doesn’t matter if you want to disregard that because it’s objective show canon
Six moons between the two movies? And the movies took place just before and just after season 4… hmm…
Assuming that each season of the show covers roughly the same amount of in-universe time, seasons 1-3 would have been about 18 moons. So yeah, the portal was closed during seasons 1-3. Sunset couldn’t have visited.
If it was so clear, why would they say it long after it became irrelevant?
And why would they say ‘moon’ in the first pla-oh fuck it, this is dumb.
@LanceOmikron
But we aren’t talking about real life; we’re talking about a magical horse world
It’s clear that the writers of both the show and the movies clearly didn’t intend for the term to refer to a lunar cycle, so there’s no point in trying to argue that they did
In real life, too. In terms of the passage of time, “a moon” refers to the time it takes for the moon to undergo a full lunar cycle. In other words, a month (and in fact, the words “moon” and “month” are etymologically related).
Yeah, but we actually have a rough unit of time equivalent to that.
If they’re trying to sound mystical and magical, fine, but don’t pretend human beings haven’t discovered moon cycles yet.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be significant; Equestria losing one of its rulers for any period of time would be trouble
The issue wasn’t even so much that Twilight would be stuck in the human world for a long time, but that Equestria wouldn’t have the element of harmony to protect itself
As another piece of evidence that a moon isn’t an extremely long time, during the commentary for RR, Meghan said that six moons had passed between the two movies
To be vague, I guess
This isn’t the first time that the term “moon” has been used in this way, either; there are loads of fictional works where a character might say “for many moons” or the like.
30 moons has to be a significant length of time. If a “moon” was roughly as long as a day or two for instance, the dramatic tension of Twi racing the clock to get her crown back in EqG1 would make no sense (Uh oh! Twi didn’t make it back through the portal in time. Ah well, it’s no big deal, the portal will be open again in a month or two.)
So what exactly is the point of using it?

I’m willing to cut the story slack on that point. I’m decently sure that the IDW folks couldn’t have predicted that Amending Fences would be a thing.
@Background Pony #BE37
100 moons would have been just over 8 years. I don’t care what Apple Family Reunion says, 8 years did not pass between FiM Part 1 and AFR. Between the start of the show and Twi becoming a princess, two years passed at best.
The portal did open several times between Sunny entering it and EqG1, but it was smack dab in the middle of its 30-moon (2 years, six months) period of being closed during Friendship is Magic part 1. She couldn’t have come through at any point during the first three seasons.
Fair enough. Starswirl and Celestia being colleagues definitely opened a lot of doors, and this did offer a potential explanation for how it could have been pre-existing information. Thing is, it’s still never hinted that Sunset knew about this. She didn’t know about the mirror being a portal, and the book that she learns that from is called “Canterlot Castle: A History”. I highly doubt that a book like that would have included detailed info on how the portal interacts with magical artifacts.
Yeah, they still are.
yeah, seems legit
