Oh yeah, there’s plenty of critiques that can be made. Like how Christina Rice has been known to straight up forget the names of the characters she’s writing and use a completely wrong one instead. But all the legitimate criticism always get drowned out by the deafening roar about how the grammatical phrasing in panel 4 on page 16 proves that nobody at IDW has ever seen a single episode of the show and that they’re intentionally ruining the series because they hate all of their readers.
While I don’t love every issue either, and some critiques about the comic are understandable, admittedly all the trendy hateraid for them/IDW is getting old. Though, to be fair, it’s cooled down a li’l recently.
Kinda a shame ’cause the series started out pretty good, and used to barely get any drama.
Ironically, as I said before, back during the drama over Season 3, and Twilicorn, I remember people whom “disowned” the show for not going the directions they wanted, turned to the comics instead, hailed them as “what the show should be,” and such. Funny how quickly that all turned around.
It’s because it’s IDW, and people will complain about literally everything IDW does, even if it’s something they’d normally love, because the cool thing to do is hate the comics as hyperbolically as possible.
I find that odd they don’t complain about that with fanartists. Still I remember somebody pointed out the show was guilty of doing that sometimes too. (Giving ’em human poses, using stock art, and such.)
People get all anal retentive about Fosgitt’s style because it’s way more cartoony than other artists’, and as such lends itself more easily to cartoonish exaggeration. So people see him draw a pony in a pose wouldn’t work in the show’s art style and they pitch a fit about it being “off-model”.
Personally, I like his style. It’s really cute and expressive, and it helps sell the action in the stories he draws for. I mean, there was that one incident where he (or whoever edited that issue) blatantly used a piece of stock clipart for a pony’s cutie mark instead of just drawing it, which is legitimately unforgivable. But other than that one thing, he does good work.
I haven’t read any of the comics with his art in it, so I can’t really comment on it, but from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look too bad. I just hope there are no screwups like there were with FF issue 24 (like, the one thing that could be done that would piss me off to no end would be giving the CMC incorrect cutie marks).
I still don’t get the hate for Fosgitt. I find his art style rather cute, and a nice change of pace from the artists who try to emmulate the show style. In fact, I like him better then Tony. (Who does better cover art, then interior art, I feel.)
Luna Charms: Now with new cutie mark-mellows.
Wrong show/comic for that kinda thing.
Isn’t this like “Stare Master,” but with Luna instead?
…I’ll take it!
oh boy here we go!
the scenario lots of peps would love to see in show ends in comic (it’s better than nothing I guess?)
