I think Rey is in fact the daughter of Luke. She is naturally strong with the force. That means she has to be of Skywalker lineage and Leia and Han never mentioned having a daughter.

Fun fact: Bill Hader (aka Fear from “Inside Out”) was one of the actors that “voiced” BB-8 in the movie.

Yeah, makes sense. For example we already got some phones that can be charged wireless, it could be a very advanced sci-fi version of that technology (I think it’s called induction or something like that?)

It’s a good thing Star Wars isn’t logic-based sci-fi, but rather imagination-based fantasy disguised as sci-fi.

But if you want to make any sense out of it, I’m sure there’s some kind of current running from BB-8’s ball into whatever rolling mechanism keeps his head balanced. It doesn’t have to be hard wiring.

I like BB-8, but his design drives me nuts. Why would a company design a droid like that? It just smacks of something they came up with as a gimmick for marketing. I can’t imagine the systems that keep his head on and upright are easy to maintain, plus I think that he would require two separate power sources to be able to run (one for body, one for head). It’s just way over-complicated and gimmicky a design, especially since we see traditional astromechs cans still work in the same jobs BB-8 does, like starfighter plug-in.

Yeah, while I like BB-8 the character, if I were living in the SW galaxy, give me a good ol’ R-unit any day.

Except for the R5, they suck.

BB-8 dies in the movie.

Assigning genders to non-biological things is a tricky business. But yeah, BB-8 looked and acted “female” to me. (Spoiler explaining my reasoning here: BB-8 was playing the “damsel in distress” role, with the Bad Guys trying to capture her and the Good Guys trying to protect her. To this old-fashioned sci-fi nerd, that really reinforces the idea that she’s female.)

@Joshua
In the movie they call BB-8 “he.” To be fair, though, he’s a ball-shaped robot that communicates through beeping noises, so there’s not much to suggest one way or the other.
