Quote for truth.
Phase 1: Lol bronies!
Phase 2: Might give this a watch.
Phase 3: The Golden Age (of your time watching).
Phase 4: Either the show or the fandom pisses you off more than it enlightens you.
Phase 5: No matter if you’re a fan or not, you miss Phase 3 and want to go back.
Is it still good? Yes. For better or for worse, these last three seasons in particular have been building up the world of Equestria from the foundation laid out by pre-Twilicorn. The show’s given us character arcs for Rarity, Rainbow, Twilight, the Mane 6, and the CMC, and for the most part I’d say they were pretty enjoyable. (Opting not to count Twilicorn here, since MMC was a bit of a rushed mess of an episode that should have been a 2-parter, not to mention Twilight’s ascension is contained within that one episode and never really mentioned prior). The movies, while starting out a bit shaky (I still remember people throwing fits about the “concept art(?)”) before we saw the animation for ourselves, have gotten progressively better, and leave me hopeful for a side-series revolving around Equestrian magic in the Human world.
Looking back, yes, FiM has become better over the years on a technical standpoint. Even as far back as the S3 preview, people were losing their minds about how well-animated Twilight’s mane was during her song. As a fandom, though? It’s receded hard since then.
As for me? Well, I got into MLP during a pretty rough time in my life, and the friends I’ve met through a common interest in FiM really helped me get by. That those times have gone, and I can only ever view them through the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia.
And for one last kick in the feels, how long’s it been since any of us have watched an episode that ended with “Dear Princess Celestia”?
Pony on.
I feeled a feel in time gone by. (Stop digging up old wounds, plz)
Hmmmm, I guess my view would be pretty biased since I came in after S3. So things like Twicorn, and other drama have just always been there. If there was a time before that sort of nonsense was prevalent, then I could definitely see why people would be nostalgic about it.
I read it as missing the camaraderie of the early fandom more than anything else.
While the show’s quality is ostensibly better now, I do kind of miss when everyone wasn’t at each other’s throats over every little thing..
[AMAZING GRACE WINDS DOWN BUT IF YOU LISTEN CLOSELY YOU CAN STILL HEAR SOMETHING]
I mean that place is kinda rough. That the fandom expanded into places that weren’t quite as Wild West-esque doesn’t really seem like a bad thing…
My overpowered OC would destroy that place for the good of everyone. Real me would cry myself to sleep or ask Twilight to go check it out.
At least RF had a story that made sense and had a good buildup. Cupcakes on the other hand is just shit tier cringedark that is only like by angsty emo teens who still think “edgymena” and “RD getting killed” are still original and think it will make them so hardcore.

For Serious Posting:
I’ve felt this way for quite a while, but to see someone else agree, and written out so eloquently to boot, brings a tear to my eye.
did that flood of ancient vocational death cruise fail not clue you in on how stupid nostalgia can be?
@Teracorn
Have they? Still seems like people spew the 20% cooler line and a few other jokes that have long ran their course.
Though maybe it’s just because they were more appropriate back then and not dated beyond all hell like they are now.
Yeah I’m glad those died out.
Regarding the post, I’m sure all those things would be called “memes” by now. I think I liked the internet better back when the word meme wasn’t used very often.
I seriously hope you did that intentionally.
