Huh, I’m not sure… According to that map thing they released a while ago:

Griffinstone is way to the east (roughly in the direction of Manehattan from Ponyville) and that’s where Arimasti’s remains are… But the skull is in a land called the “Arimasti Territory” and are far to the south. I’m guessing the skull just a visual synecdoche for the name Arimasti, or maybe there are more of Arimasti’s kind there… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also isn’t that just an Arimaspi (sp?) skull?
You can barely make out the skull’s eye socket. :3
Could that skull be from a creature, and this wasteland is a result of it no longer being dead due to an alteration?

I was removing those tags. The correct one (“spoiler…”) was already there.
There’s tons of negative vibes in multiple cursed locations. Old ruined temples, old ruined churches, Manson’s house.
If they don’t already, they’d probably live forever on the residule fear, anger, and hate from an entire damn country. XD
Although they seem to be devoid of any life given that Cloudsdale is gone and there’s no rainbow from Canterlot. Kinda scary that Twilight, Starlight, and Spike are likely the only significant living things.

I think that’s always been there. Although the script has never explicitly mentioned it…
Could be windigoes. Though the wastelands don’t appear to be covered in ice or snow. If nopony is left alive, I’m not sure that the windigoes would stick around, since there’s no hate or anything to feed on.
That’s on the normal map too.
