Without Twilight (or Sunset) to be the element of Magic, Celestia probably realised that she had to do something else to win. In one timeline, she didn’t figure it out (the Nightmare Moon one) and got caught. In the other, she did something that made it all work out - perhaps as simple as reminding Nightmare Moon of all the good times she shared with Celestia back when she was Luna, and Luna broke free of her Nightmare out of her own choice. Like Zecora said, time is a river - it doesn’t all go perfectly straight in a new direction if you deflect it, it tends to eddy and flow in different ways.

I hardly think this counts as ‘blind use’. The two words were used in one sentence to describe the same thing, that is redundant.

Blind use of a thesaurus can be very hazardous. Just because meanings are similar in one sense doesn’t mean they’re interchangeable.

I agree, it’s just for attention. No one signs their name like that in informal settings like this. Message boards and comments/discussion areas automatically show everyone’s (screen)name anyway. It’s pointless and slightly narcissistic.

Given how Zecora said the future could go many, many ways, perhaps another way was found to save Luna in this continuity? Regardless, Celestia lost the ability to use the elements as soon as she used them to seal Nightmare Moon (I recall it being explained as a spell that allowed her to use the elements on her own but only a single time).
