In my opinion, this episode is “Lisa Goes Gaga” done right.

When I saw that, and all the spectacle, I was sure she was lip-syncing and covering up for it. That she’d “forgotten” how to really sing, losing her special cutie mark talent when she lost her way and got caught up in being this big, constructed, branded, “star”; which of course just forced her to go bigger and more distracting to better cover it up in viscious cycle. Like, drawing a parallel to “Canterlot Boutique”, if Rarity had made the other choice.
 
Although really, I guess I’m not unhappy with the way the actual episode played out. Different lesson about standing up to false friends and staying true to yourself, instead of retreading the old lesson about creative integrity vs success for its own sake.
