I don’t get that mentality since the character isn’t even dead, just that the entire fan project to give him his own show within the fandom was shut down.
 
Doesn’t mean people won’t do fan art or their own projects involving him.

They have no taste… I heard frome one background pony here on Derpibooru saying other people can still make awesome Button Mash animations, but most people don’t even bother because Button’s practically dead, and you can’t hear his name without thinking about C&D. There was even a FUCKING GOANIMATE GROUNDED VIDEO about it.

Well yeah but somehow the fandom (half of it anyway) have decided to just make never ending jokes about Button Mash being cease and desisted by Hasbro, and as pointed out, some animators seemed to have taken stride of the C&D and made jokes about it, like the Halloween animation where || Button is kidnapped by a white van with a Hasbro logo on it || and the animator “The Cutie Remark - Prequel” where it ends with Button and Sweetie Belle having a romantic moment before Button is crushed by the TARDIS because “lol he’s dead in the fandom” joke.

This Button is only a C&D thing started because Button only had one episode, one short, and one music video before Jan got a C&D.

Hey I hate the joke too. It was funny at first, but now it just feels like a pathetic attempt to piss off AJ fans because ‘LOL she get no toys therefore nothing special ha ahahahah’. Ya know, like the “Button Mash is only a C&D joke” by smug animators.

Then again, EQD was the site that dropped a rather controversial joke involving AJ’s (dead) parents and there was a slew of people who felt the joke was unfunny and others who went “Y U BEING OFFENDED OVER CARTOON CHARACTERS?!”
