… by its popularity? Derpibooru is just one website, and just because a ship might have a high image count, it isn’t necessarily a reflection of people’s opinions of the actual ship. When you take into account things like edits, alt versions, memes/macros, general spamming etc, those will increase image count, but that doesn’t mean that said ships are also more popular as far as how many people actually like and ship them. It just means more pictures.
 
Even just on Derpi ratings of images might say more than image count. Factoring in other sites outside Derpi though too, and other sorts of fan output (fanfiction, videos, polls, and just what people talk about in comments and discussions) paints a much clearer picture of what is actually popular in the fandom overall.

Rarijack is one of the biggest ships out there, maybe not in image count here, but in general popularity. It does make sense that the portion of the fandom TFH appeals to would overlap with some of the portion that likes/ships Rarijack, since these two are so similar to Rarity/AJ. Secondly what DAPLR said, by default you’re going to see mostly them right now since they’ve gotten easily 10x the exposure/fleshing out of the characters. Thirdly this particular image arguably isn’t even shipping anyway.

I find the who “Tianhuo being less arrogant than Rainbow Dash” thing ironic, because in the game, the Longma are a very proud and arrogant race.

Pom is essentially Fluttershy, but she is the most confident Fluttershy in a herd of Fluttershys.  
Paprika seems to be Pinkie, but she seems like the Pinkie who doesn’t know any friends yet, but REALLY wants to make them.  
The unicorn Oleander, surprise surprise, is Twilight, but who when left to her own devices decided to study and analyze what dark magic is and challenge the conception that it is inherently evil.  
Then Longma is a less arrogant Rainbow Dash.
 
The characters are clear both from the personality similarities and the way the characters play in ‘thems fightin herds’ and ‘Fighting is Magic’ comparatively.

First come, first served, essentially. These characters were the only ones we knew of for quite some time. We also know very little about the others while these two have established backstories.
