Build commie blocks!
From a narrative perspective, what I want to see is actual movement as opposed to just action. What do I mean by that? Well:

Going by SF Debris’ usage of the terms:

Action: is stuff happening within the narrative, like exposition, setup, characterisation, conflict, et cetera.

Movement: is all the stuff mentioned above [and then some] helping move the overall plot in a general direction.

Bringing it back to FiM, an example of movement was in the first season, with the buildup to the Grand Galloping Gala. Even if only subtly, one of the narrative threads of the first season was the episodes related to the GGG, which gave the series a sense of direction, thus movement, instead of it just meandering about in the characterisation slice-of-life pool.

All three seasons so far had action, and plenty of it, but only season one really had any movement.

The episodes in season 3 before AFR(Apple Family Reunion) seemed to imply movement, but that didn’t really amount to anything in the season finale.

So in conclusion, I want the show to pick up the movement generated in previous seasons (Celestia, Luna, The Crystal Empire, Equestrian Games, reforming Discord, Changelings, Rainbow Dash and the Wonderbolts, Twilicorn, Cadance) and actually go somewhere with it. I mean, slice-of-life is fine, but geez, they introduced/set up all this stuff, so they should at least do something with it.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Ebalosus
The seasons did have movement. It was rather sloppy but it did. Throughout the seasons we saw Twilight progressively get stronger with her magic and bond with friends throughout the series. In boast busters she is shown to learn more spells than before. In Season 2 Twilight seamed to learn more spells faster. Of course in the Crystal Empire she does the gravity reverse spell. No doubt that one day Twilight would become really powerful and skilled at magic. I wasn’t surprised about Twilight becoming an alicorn I just didn’t expect it to be so soon. I don’t think the studio did either.

There has been some progress with the other mane six. Rainbow Dash is finally is in training and Rarity is becoming more well known. Besides Twilight,Rainbow dash, and Rarity the other girls doesn’t have any straightforward goals. Pinkie wants to spread happiness and cheer. Fluttershy wants to see her friends succeed. Applejack well she just wants the best for the family.

The CMC are the only ponies that has no progression at all. All they learned is what they are not good at. Only Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle feels like had any development at at all. Apple Bloom like her sister has been, well Apple Bloom. There hasn’t been any clear progression with them at all and all three has one collective goal. They even brought in a new character in I which I thought “oh they are going to have the CMC eventually be the new elements.” but no she was an one off character. The upcoming Scootaloo episode promises movement within the CMC but we’ll see.
Background Pony #2E05
I’m dying to see more of Pinkie’s past, or at least more of her family of the present day. Out of all the Mane Six I find Pinkie the most mysterious. From the family that we’ve seen Pinkie is VERY different from them. Granted all the ponies seem to be different from the family (like they don’t really look alike). You could even say that she may be adopted.
Background Pony #2E05
Well, like her sisters she had a straight mane and seemed depressed but that’s about it.
