oh man, I still know a few “season 1 was best season and everything else sucks” people. lol. it confuses me that even when we have STUPIDLY AWESOME pony episodes, that people are like hating on them JUST BECAUSE they are not in SEASON ONE :/
I meant unfortunately for me.
@Keith Mowz
I continue to watch the show because I still have faith in it. Sure I don’t enjoy it as much as I did way back when (which feels like just last week tbh, wow), but there are still episodes I kinda like (I wouldn’t go so far as decided that they are perfect, but still). And I am also willing to admit there are episodes from Ye Olde Days I really didn’t like at all. I can also agree that sometimes people really hate things I think aren’t particularly worth hating, but I’m not going to rag on them for having a different opinion because that would make me a complete hypocrite.
@ColdhardSilver
And that’s fine. Just saying you like something other people don’t or vice versa (or even better, explaining why you hold that opinion if you’re willing to spend the time) is perfectly okay. My problem is when people just dismiss your opinion as just being a product of something wrong with you, e.g. “I feel sorry for you that you are so hateful that you can’t just enjoy the show,” stuff like that. And yes, I know it can be the other way around (“It’s too bad you’re too blinded by your fanboyism to realize [insert negative opinion about the show].”), I just don’t see it as often, but I hear that happens a lot on 4chan a lot, so that’s probably why.
@ColdhardSilver
I don’t frequent 4chan, so I can’t really say much about this. I’m just saying I’ve never had someone talk down to me with a context where it could be construed as a joke, and if it was, it was very well veiled as sincere.
This reads like you’re referring to trolling? I don’t really count that as joking. Not in the “omg ban trolling” kind of way, just that is really more of just self-entertainment than joking. A joke is something you tell to someone to try and make them laugh, or at least make them exhale slightly harder than normal. Trolling is almost the complete polar opposite, being where you try to agitate another so they lash out and make you giggle like a schoolgirl at the impact you’ve had on them. The point is usually to not be figured out, so I’d never even realize it anyway.
*for longer than
What my brain meant to say was something along the lines of “for the majority of the show’s existence”.
“popular opinion of the fanbase, I almost always get talked down to by at least one person”
Like I said before that’s normal of all discussions. I remember being debating about the Crystal Empire episode who absolutely hated the episode by his own words. His ire for the episode didn’t stop me from expressing my love of it. Same goes for having an unpopular opinion.
“because I’ve never seen someone patronize someone as a joke. That’s why I say stupid knee-jerk trite like “People always rage at me.”
Really? Bro, I could go on 4chan alone and get plenty of examples. Even outside of that plenty of comedy stems from discomfort, anguish, and misery and patronizing someone or something tends bring up about all three which in turn creates comedy for the patronizer.
Probably because people are sick of people complaining about how the show is supposedly so much worse than it used to be. They’ve been hearing it for longer than the show’s been around at this point, since as early as the end of season 2.
If you don’t think the show’s as good, whatever. We’d rather you just stopped watching than continuing to complain because we’re sick to death of people complaining.
Bad phrasing?
Okay…maybe rage was quite an exaggeration. But whenever I say I don’t agree with a popular opinion of the fanbase (well, except in a few places), I almost always get talked down to by at least one person. Unfortunately, “Season 5 is gr8 m8” seems to be a very popular opinion right now.
“You’re just jaded, you’re losing connection to the characters, you need to watch the show with ‘reasonable expectations’, stop hating/whining, etc.”
It really rubs me the way when people do this, because I am basically being told I am stupid for not liking something about the show. And that’s really not something you can just shrug off as a joke, because I’ve never seen someone patronize someone as a joke. That’s why I say stupid knee-jerk trite like “People always rage at me.”
And that was my point. Initially you said “people always rage at me.”, but now you’re saying “seem” and “maybe” that you can’t be sure if it is real rage, I know couple of users here who do such. In others words take things with a grain or two of salt.
It didn’t seem like it was a jest. Maybe, but I really doubt it.
Maybe. Berating implies sincerity. They very much could just be messing with you and the only one who can attest to that is them.
Does someone saying “Shut up, no one asked for your opinion. GTFO” in response to someone saying they hate a particular episode count as berating?
Well played. Gotta respect a well-deployed recursion. :)
and what a cute!
Fine then. Pumpkin Cake a cute.

shut up, you’re going offtopic
but even then that’s only with personal context.
Sure berating someone for having an opinion is bad, but not ever claim of such is an example of it.
Yes stating opinions as facts is bad too, but again that’s only if that was their actual intention. There are those who express their opinion, but don’t use the phrases like “IMO” since it’s meant to be implied.
And that’s only if the other person is being sincere since many will do such things (berating and stating “facts”) as a joke (like X is best pony) or to get a rise out of someone.
Stating a different opinion == Berating someone for holding their opinion
And
Claiming certain things as fact == Stating an opinion
There is a certain amount of confusion about these things, wherever people meet and talk - especially on the internet.
>starting your opinion
>someone who disagrees brings forth their opinion
Come on background pony, surely you know this to be the natural flow of this.
I personally disagree on all counts, but whenever I say I don’t particularly care for season 5 in general people always rage at me.
Never considered that myself, good point man. At that point they probably can begin giving them individual traits and mannerisms. I wonder if they’re going to play the “complete opposite twins” card with Pound and Pumpkin.
I dunno, I think the pacing of this and the last episode were done fairly well. Overall I think season 5 has been a bit better than seasons 3 or 4.
