It’s a word pun. In Russian, “loitering” is “СЛОН-яться”, and to “lean against” is “при-СЛОН-яться” with “СЛОН” meaning the elephant. It’s a homophone. The fun thing is that “СЛОН” (SLON) is taken from Turkic “ASLAN” which means… “lion”. Well, both are animals from far away no one knows how they look, so they are easy to mix up. And the actual word for an elephant (goth. ulbandus) was given to… a camel.
